Local winter clothing donation campaign returns
The Okotoks United Church is hosting its Jacket Racket campaign again this year.
For over 20 years, the United Church has been collecting winter clothing for those in the area who could use a little help staying warm.

High River Flyers can't seem to find the win column
The High River Flyers have yet to register a win during the 2024-2025 HJHL season.
They're 0-5-1 so far after losing to the Airdrie Techmation Thunder on Friday (Oct. 4) and then falling to the Coaldale Copperheads on Saturday.
The Flyers have still yet to play a home game this season due to renovations at Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex.
Friday's game saw the Flyers get on the board with goals but the Thunder came out on top. Lucas Gough opened up the scoring for the Flyers with Isaac Cayetano and Owen Grant getting the helpers.

Oilers head home from BC with two losses
For the first time in Okotoks Oilers history, they met with the Penticton Vees and the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in regular season play.
Unfortunately the Green and Gold could not pick up a win over the weekend with a 5-1 loss to the Vees and then a 4-2 loss to the Silverbacks.
Friday (Oct. 4) was the first of four meetings between former Oiler Conyr Hellyer who captains the Vess and the Oilers. Over 3,000 fans packed the South Okanagan Events Centre for the Vees home opener.
Foothills man reported missing in June found safe
A Diamond Valley man who was reported missing over the summer has been found.
In July, Foothills RCMP asked for the public's help in finding a man who hadn't been heard from since June 25.
They've now confirmed that he has been found safe.
High River business owner charged for firearm offences and animal neglect
High River RCMP have recently charged the owner of a dog daycare with firearms and animal neglect offences.
On September 3, the High River RCMP were called to The Dawg Father Daycare and Boarding.
While they were there, officers found evidence of weapons offences in plain sight, which led to one male being arrested on the scene and a search warrant being issued.
During their search of the property, officers also found there were animals on the property that were not being suitably cared for.

The Oct. 7 attack by Hamas fighters on Israel last year, and the immediate Israeli retaliation that followed, sent shockwaves throughout the world that have shaken Canada culturally and politically.

Oct. 7, 2023 — Hamas-led militants launched air and ground attacks on Israel, killing nearly 1,200 and taking more than 250 hostages. The attacks, followed hours later by Israeli counterattacks in the Gaza Strip, marked the beginning of the current Israel-Hamas war.
Historic trade route still has a presence in the Foothills
Macleod Trail remains one of Calgary's primary roadways, but it's been used to transport goods through the area since before the arrival of railways.
The Old Macleod Trail started in Fort Macleod and made its way into Calgary, and south from Fort Macleod to Fort Benton, Montana.
That portion of the trail was known as the Whoop-Up Trail.
According to the Director and Curator of the Museum of the Highwood, Irene Kerr, the trail was used to ship goods prior to the train arriving in 1883.
High River's Budget talks set to start on Monday
High River Town Council's 2025 budget preparations are underway with the first discussion meeting happening on Monday (Oct. 7).
Residents are welcome to attend the meetings, which are scheduled throughout October.
