Gislason honoured to lead the Terriers

The captain of your 2023-24 Portage Terriers is Tayem Gislason.

The defenceman arrived in Portage midway through last season after playing 16 games in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels and Prince Albert Raiders. Gislason had 14 points in 32 regular season games last year and put up four points in five games at the Centennial Cup.

"I was pretty excited. It's pretty cool to be the captain," Gislason continues. "There's such a history behind this team, so it's really exciting to be a part of that and be a leader on this team."

Terriers start the season undefeated at Stride Place

Win number one is in the books. The Portage Terriers sent their fans home happy after a 5-4 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals tonight in their first game at Stride Place.

While the Terriers did come out on top, it was a former Terrier who struck first. Less than three minutes into the game, Josh Lehto (Played one regular season game for Portage last season) was fed the puck along the wing in a 3-on-2 rush. He ripped a shot past Jayden Catellier to give Virden the early lead.

Spiller and Terriers eager for game one

Finally, Junior A hockey has come back to Manitoba. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League season began last night with a five-game slate, and the action continues tonight with five more games going down.

The Portage Terriers are making their regular season debut tonight as they travel to Neepawa to take on the Titans. Head coach Blake Spiller says the end of September is one of the best times in every season.

Trojans fall in home opener

The Portage Collegiate Trojans aren't too pleased about the result of their home opener, however, the squad will be fairly encouraged by their second-half performance. The PCI football team fell 33-0 to the Vincent Massey Vikings yesterday and has fallen to 0-2 this season.

While the score was lopsided, the two teams tied the second half 0-0, with all 33 points from the Vikings coming in the first two quarters. Trojans head coach Brendon Brydges believes this game could've gone much differently.

Portage Terriers: 2023-24 season preview

With the 2023 Centennial Cup in the rearview mirror, the Portage Terriers are looking forward to what should be another great regular season.

The Terriers started 2022-23 with the singular focus of competing for the Centennial Cup, which Portage hosted from May 11-21. It was a roster carousel with 43 different players suiting up for at least one game.

Veteran Terrier ready for team's next chapter

Daniel Siso couldn't be more excited for his third season in the City of Possibilities. The 20-year-old forward is hoping to be a leader in the locker room for the Portage Terriers, just as he was last year. Siso was one of the assistant captains for the team in 2022-23.

He describes this season as a new chapter for the squad and notes training camp was quite encouraging.
