Terriers return to the ice tonight in Winkler

The Portage Terriers are hitting the road today as they travel to Winkler for a battle with the Flyers. The last time these two teams met was back in September in what was the Terriers' lowest-scoring game of the season as they came out with a 2-1 victory.

The Dogs are looking to get back in the win column tonight after suffering a hard-fought loss at home on Wednesday night in a shootout against the Dauphin Kings. 

Dogs drop first shootout of season

The Portage Terriers are in second place in the MJHL standings once again but couldn't come out victorious. The Terriers fell 6-5 in a shootout tonight on home ice against the Dauphin Kings.

Portage started the game off hot, scoring less than five minutes into the game. Matt Wisener won an offensive zone faceoff and got the puck to Slade Stanick on his wing. The former King held the puck in the slot as the bodies cleared out before firing the puck, top shelf.

Terriers sweep weekend series against OCN

The Portage Terriers wrapped up the first weekend of December with another win over the OCN Blizzard. After blowing out the Blizzard 7-2 on Saturday night, it took until the last minute of play on Sunday for Portage to pull out a 4-3 victory.

The night was a penalty filled affair with both teams finishing 1/7 on the power play. The Terriers got the first goal on the man advantage midway through the first period when Hayden Lacquette scored his 9th of the season. The Blizzard responded quickly from Drayden Kurbatoff to tie the game at 1.

Terriers send kids home happy in more ways than one

The Portage Terriers are back in the win column. The Dogs braved the cold and conquered the OCN Blizzard tonight on home ice, coming away with a 7-2 victory.

Tonight was the Terriers' annual Teddy Bear Toss Game in support of the Salvation Army, and it took only 2:48 of game time before the stuffed animals hit the ice.

Terriers looking for flurry of goals tonight against Blizzard

The Portage Terriers are back on home ice tonight for the first in a set of back-to-back games.

The Dogs are taking on the OCN Blizzard tonight and tomorrow. These two teams have only met once so far this season but the game was cut short in overtime due to a catastrophic injury.

The scouting report indicates OCN is a very physical team, according to goaltender Bailey Montieth.

Terriers make a flurry of trades on December 1st deadline day

The Portage Terriers added veteran experience to their roster yesterday ahead of the CJHL’s Dec.1 cutdown deadline. All teams needed to be down to a maximum of 25 players or less by 5 p.m. Teams are now limited in their ability to add and trade players until the final January 10th deadline when rosters need to be at 23 players.

The Terriers have traded D Tyler Dodgson (04) and F Brandon Funk (05) to the Winnipeg Blues along with future considerations for F Jack Kaiser (02) and D Matt McLeod (02). Other moves included:

Lacquette becomes two time Defenceman of the Month winner

Portage Terriers' leading-scorer, Hayden Lacquette, is the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Defenceman of the Month. Lacquette is being recognized for his performance in November, where he scored four goals and dished out nine assists over the course of nine games.

The Defenceman of the Month award has been dominated by the Terriers this season as Lacquette has now won it twice and Brandon McCartney was the only other recipient so far this season. 

Terriers on their way to Wayway

The Portage Terriers are back on the road tonight as they travel to Waywayseecappo for a meeting with the Wolverines. The Dogs currently lead the season series 2-1. These contests have been high scoring as at least one team has reached the five-goal mark in each game.

Terriers make it a perfect weekend with two wins

The Portage Terriers looked strong from start to finish beating the Winnipeg Blues 4-1 on Sunday night. The Terriers outshot the Blues 37-14.

Portage started red hot, pouring the pressure on Winnipeg goalie Brock Moroz. The Blues netminder held his team in the game early making multiple point-blank saves on Terrier forwards. Eventually, Portage was able to solve him when Brandon Funk tipped a Hayden Lacquette point shot with five minutes to go in the first period.
