Warm Thanksgiving days ahead—Will Airdrie’s average October snowfall follow?

With Thanksgiving weekend temperatures hovering around the average range for this time of year and a balmy surprise on Monday, some residents may think of the dread 's' word - snow. When will it come and how much will there be?

According to Stephen Berg, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, 10 to 15 centimetres of snow usually falls in October.

After the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a geomagnetic storm watch for October 10-11, Airdrie residents turned their eyes to the darkened sky over Airdrie, and it was another night of spectacular views as the northern lights danced.

Carstairs Fire Department looking for new recruits

The Carstairs Fire Department has put out a call to locals who are interested in joining the fire department to now apply.

According to Josh Van Arnam, the fire prevention officer and captain at the Carstairs Fire Department, this time of the year is when they are looking for recruits.

"We don't necessarily have a number that we're looking for, but we're looking to hire some people that would like to join the Carstairs Fire Department."

According to Can Arnam, one of the big stipulations is that they have to live either within the town or within five minutes.

Lesser charge announced in Rocky View County murder case

One of the men accused in the deadly Rocky View County shooting that left an Airdrie man dead and another injured in early August will not be facing a first-degree murder trial.

35-year-old Arthur Wayne Penner of Edmonton was initially charged with the first-degree murder of Airdrie resident Colin Hough and the attempted murder of another man. However, the prosecution has indicated that he will instead be facing a second-degree murder trial.
