Gershwin and Ravel: Classic from the Concert Hall

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra closes out their Saturday Classic series with a program of French and French-inspired music. 

Conducted by maestro Daniel Raiskin, the acclaimed American pianist Claire Huangci makes her belated WSO debut. Originally scheduled for a performance in 2021, the award-winning pianist introduces herself to the Winnipeg audience with two 20th Century piano concerti: one by Maurice Ravel and the other by George Gershwin. 

River City Sound presents Top 40 Hits – barbershop style

For over 75 years, the River City Sound A Capella Chorus has been harmonizing and building community through music. Though, it hasn’t always been under that moniker.  

“Previously, we were known as the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen,” says Les Creek, choir member and VP Music and Performance with the group. 

 

WSO and Virtuosi Concerts Present International piano superstar Claire Huangci this weekend

This weekend Winnipeg audiences have the opportunity to experience something really special. On Saturday, May 11th at 7:30pm our Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the fantastic American pianist Claire Huangci in a program featuring the piano concertos of Gershwin and Ravel. Then on Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm at the WAG-Qaumajuq,  Huangci will be performing a solo recital as part of Virtuosi’s 2023-24 concert season.

The acclaimed American pianist Claire Huangci closes out the Virtuosi Concerts season with an intimate recital titled “Romantic Fantasy.”  

Before Huangci takes the bench, local lauded pianist Angela Ng will warm the keys as the Virtuosi Young Artist opening the program.   

"I’m excited to play,” says Ng, who will perform the first movement to the Sonata in C, Hob. XVI/50 by Joseph Haydn.   

Serata: Manitoba music teachers perform to help raise money

Coming up this Sunday May 5th at 7:00pm at St. Andrews River Heights United Church The Manitoba Registered Music Techers Association is hosting their annual Serata concert.

Advertised as An Evening of Musical Delights the concert will feature some of the MRMTA’s very talented teachers in performances ranging from solo to ensemble works.

'What to Read' in the Month of May!

On the first Friday of the month, listeners can find Chris Hall of McNally Robinson Booksellers in the Classic 107 studio to share his latest picks in the "What to Read" feature.

As always, the diverse and eclectic suggestions encompass a variety of genres and styles. Chris also spoke about some of the goings-on at McNally, including book launches, community classroom events and a "hairbrained scheme" that has been years in the making.
