Manitoba Underground Opera takes to the high seas to close out their 2023 Odyssey season.  

Just days ahead of opening night, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony revealed that their 2023/24 concert season will not be going ahead as planned. 

Over the weekend, the KWS published a post on their website announcing that all performances had been canceled, citing "financial challenges."

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra launches their 2023/24 season by welcoming back renowned violinist Vadim Gluzman to the Centennial Concert Hall stage to perform music of Max Bruch. Plus, writing of Bloch, Smetana, and Dvorak – all played by the marvelous musicians of the WSO, led by maestro Daniel Raiskin.  

They’re two of our city’s finest musicians. Artistically enticing, sympathetic, creative, and dynamic – oboist Caitlin Broms-Jacobs and pianist Madeline Hildebrand are, together, the DUO CBJ&MH.  

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra begins their 51st season by welcoming renowned concert pianist Awadagin Pratt to the Crescent Arts Centre.  

Though, to call him simply a "renowned pianist" is to do Pratt a disservice. 

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 6th at 7:00pm, the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg will be holding a fundraising concert in support of their Biennial WMC McLellan Competition at 510 South Drive.

Every two years, the WMC McLellan competition awards $20,000 dollars in cash prizes to three outstanding soloists. The intent of the WMC McLellan Scholarship is to provide career funding and performance opportunities for advanced Manitoba educated musicians pursuing performance careers.

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra’s 51st season gets underway on Wednesday and, for the first time in two decades, a new executive director will be at the helm of the venerable arts organization. 

Sean McManus officially stepped into the role on August 14, 2023.

Coinciding with the start of the second half of the MCO's first century of music-making, Sean joined Simeon in studio to chat about his vision for the MCO, his extensive roots in the Manitoba music community, and the exciting season ahead.
