Mennonite Community Orchestra 'Giving Voice' to many in upcoming concert

For the Mennonite Community Orchestra, Giving Voice is more than the just the title they gave to their upcoming concert.  

It’s also more than just the unifying theme of the works being presented, which run the gamut from the rhythmic “Danzon no. 2” by the Mexican composer Arturo Marquez, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ inventive “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis”, the fiery overture to Georges Bizet’s “Carmen”, and the dazzling “Introduction and Rondo Capriccio” by Camille Saint-Saens.

Coming up in just a few days Winnipeg audiences will have the opportunity to see one of the genuinely great string quartets on the stage today.  

The Swedish Stenhammar String Quartet will be in Winnipeg performing two concerts. One for Virtuosi and one for Winnipeg's GroundSwell.

This Thursday, October 31st at 7:30 at the Rady Jewish Community Centre as part of their inaugural JFest they are presenting Winnipeg drag goddess Lady Muse and her band The Inspirations playing the music of Amy Winehouse. 

Sick & Twisted Theatre appoints new artistic producer

The leadership team at Sick & Twisted Theatre has announced that veteran Winnipeg theatre creator Theresa Thomson will join its ranks in a new role as artistic producer.  

The Winnipeg theatre company is dedicated to creating theatre experiences that explore life for folks with disabilities. They do this through performances that uplift performers with disabilities, and also put out calls to action in the city of Winnipeg to encourage artists and audiences alike to consider accessibility and representation. 

Intermezzo at 1 p.m.: Stenhammars plays Stenhammar.

Tune in every day at 1pm this week to hear the Stenhammar String Quartet perform the quartets of their namesake, the Swedish composer Wilhelm Stenhammar

On Sunday November 3, and Monday November 4, Winnipeggers will have the opportunity to hear one of the most prominent string quartets on the scene today. 

The Swedish based Stenhammar String Quartet will be performing two concerts, one for Virtuosi Concerts, and one for Winnipeg’s Groundswell.
