On May 31 Atma Classique released a brand-new recording of Haydn’s two cello concertos. The disc also features music of iconic Canadian composer Jaques Hetu; his Rondeau for Cello and Orchestra 

This recording features the outstanding Canadian Cellist Cameron Crozman and Le Violins du Roy led by Nicolas Ellis. 

On Friday, June 14th, the 35th Annual TD International Jazz Festival starts. Local musicians and musicians and form all over the world will converge on the center of the continent to perform and take part in nine days of great music. 

Coming up this Monday, June 17th at 7pm and 9:30pm at The Fort Garry Hotel Club Room, Jazz Winnipeg will be saluting the legendary Bossa Nova Singer Astrud Gilberto. 

For a quarter century, Rainbow Harmony Project has proudly raised its voice in song and social awareness.  

Winnipeg’s choral community of 2SLGBTQIA+ folks and allies mark their 25th anniversary with a spring concert, “Connect.” 

“We’re really excited,” says artistic director Brittany Mielnichuk. “Not only are we an arts organization, we’re a queer arts organization. It’s a big deal to us.”

This week June 9-15 is bike week here in Winnipeg. It is a week when Winnipeggers are encouraged to get out, have fun, and explore the city on two wheels. 

In honour of this marvellous initiative, we here at Classic 107 thought it would be fun to explore composers and their relationship with their bikes. A surprising number of composers kept fit and active on their bicycles whether it be biking to rehearsals, other commitments, or just simply for fun and exploring. 

All week we here at Classic 107 have been highlighting performers who have been taking part in the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival. 

One of the remarkable and informative presentations that has been happening as part of the Agassiz Festival is a production called Sounding Thunder: The Song of Francis Pegahmagabow.  

It’s starting to look and feel a lot more summery out there in Winnipeg.

Whether it’s in anticipation of days spent at the beach or curled up indoors on the couch, a new book is always a good idea for the warmer months. 

Thankfully, on the first Friday of June, Chris Hall of McNally Robinson Booksellers returned to the Classic 107 studio with his latest picks in "What to Read!"

Tomorrow afternoon, June 7th at CMU’s Laudamus Auditorium, the Agassiz Chamber music festival will be featuring the renowned Danish ensemble The Rudersdal Chamber Players. 

The group will be playing a double bill concert, with the first concert starting at 1:00pm and the second concert starting at 2:15. Featuring music by Melanie Bonis, Amanda Maier, Beethoven and others, these two concerts are going to be a terrific way to spend a Friday afternoon here in Winnipeg. 

Brought together by their love of song and passion for culture, Musica Singers end their debut season on a high note.  

Coinciding with Filipino Heritage Month, “An Evening of Songs from the Philippines” features the choir plus a number of special guests performing traditional songs by celebrated contemporary and past composers.  

“This concert is something like an anthology of songs from the Philippines,” says Oscar Pantaleon.  

All this week one of the real highlights of the early summer has been happening here in Winnipeg. The Agassiz Chamber Music Festival is now on. It has been offering the best chamber music performed by some of the best musicians on the scene today.
