Hockey dreams in motion: Alida Korte’s journey

It's definitely a bright future on the ice for Saskatoon’s Alida Korte. 

A familiar name in the area, Korte was in Humboldt last week as a guest coach for the Girls camp at the Humboldt Broncos Summer Hockey School. 

At 17, Korte has already established an impressive hockey profile, but there’s no doubt she’s plans on continuing to add to it.  

Encouraged by both her brother and father, Alida began playing hockey at the age of five. Korte played on boys’ teams until age 15, then switched to girls’ hockey in Saskatoon. 

From heatwave to frost risk: Humboldt braces for a cool start to September

After some scorching days with temperatures in the mid 30s, there's a chance the temperature will be moving the other way this week. 

There is a risk of frost for the Humboldt area later tonight.  

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Crawford Luke explains that it will be a cooler week after last’s week sizzler. 

A classic win for the Roughriders over the Blue Bombers during the Labor Day weekend

The Labour Day Classic lived up to its name this weekend.  

In the 60th edition of the game, it was the Saskatchewan Roughriders who came out on top, defeating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 34-30.  

Saskatchewan remains in first place in the Western Division with the victory.  

CN Rail prepares to ramp up operations

As harvest operations begin across the prairies, CN Rail is monitoring the impact of weather on the harvest and working with customers as it prepares to ramp up grain movement. 

David Przednowek,Vice President of Grain for CN Rail says with the seasonal decline that they usually see in shipping, they move some of the hopper car fleet into long-term storage, and it's time to bring them back out and get them ready to roll.

Road closure advisory - 6th Avenue between 102nd and 104th Street

The City of Humboldt advises motorists of a road closure on 6th Avenue between 102nd Street and 104th Street.

That stretch of 6th Avenue will be closed to repair a manhole near lift station #4 that is currently under construction.
Access is available to the residential properties as needed.

Residents on the west side of the lift station will use 102nd Street and residents on the east side will use 104th Street.
The city thanks residents for your patience.

Majority of Canadian youth have been bullied, child poverty on the rise: report

A new report released as students across the country return to school finds bullying, poverty and mental illness are on the rise among Canadian youth and urges action from policy-makers to improve the lives of children. 

The Raising Canada report says more than 70 per cent of Canadian youth between the ages of 12 and 17 experienced bullying in the last year, and more than 13 per cent of children were living in poverty by the end of 2024.

Community invited to gather for Pajama Walk and Barbecue Fundraiser in support of Early Literacy Program

Families are invited to don their comfiest sleepwear and join in the fun at Glen Hall Park this Sunday, September 7, for the Pajama Walk and Barbecue, a lively fundraiser hosted by the Humboldt Early Years Family Resource Center. 

Running from 10 am to 1 pm, the event is designed to bring families together for an afternoon of activities, food, and fun, all in support of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a free book program for young children.
