All Canada Classic showcases top sheep breeding stock

The All Canada Classic Sheep Show returned to Brandon this past weekend, bringing together sheep producers from across the country to showcase breeding stock and connect with fellow industry members.

With about 250 sheep for sale and attendees from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, the event marked a milestone for the national sheep industry.

A local success story

Brandon last hosted the national show in 1981, and the event remained here for three years before moving westward across the country.

Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships enters final rounds at Humboldt Golf Club

The Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships rolls into Day 3 and the final rounds at the Humboldt Golf Club, capping off four days of high-level competition and community spirit at one of the province’s most scenic courses. 

With over 150 golfers from across Saskatchewan competing in multiple divisions, including the men’s and women’s amateur and mid-amateur categories, the tournament brought both intense play and significant attention to the city of Humboldt. 

ICYMI: Artist talk tonight, July 17, 7 pm for 'natura vindicat' at the Gallery

The term natura vindicat is Latin for nature reclaims.  It’s also an exhibition of drawings by Saskatoon-area artists Cristine Andrew Stuckel and Diana Roelens inspired during an 8-month artist residency at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo. The exhibit is on display now at the Humboldt and District Gallery until September 9.  

Wet weekend ahead

A low-pressure system is expected to bring rain across much of Saskatchewan this weekend, with central and east-central regions—including Humboldt—likely to see the heaviest precipitation beginning Saturday night, according to Environment Canada. 

Crawford Luke, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the system is moving in from Alberta and Montana on Saturday and will track eastward through Sunday and into Monday. 

Humboldt Museum launches historic downtown public art walking tour for Historic Places Day

The Humboldt & District Museum is inviting the public to take part in a new historic downtown public art walking tour, launching Saturday, July 19, in celebration of Historic Places Day. 

The free guided tours will depart from the museum at 11:00 am, 2:00 pm., and 3:00 pm, offering participants a chance to explore the stories behind some of Humboldt’s historic buildings and its growing collection of public art. 

Back to Batoche Days returns July 17–20

Back to Batoche Days, Canada’s largest outdoor Indigenous festival, kicks off today in Batoche, Saskatchewan, running through July 20. Hosted by Métis Nation–Saskatchewan, the annual event brings together Métis citizens, families, and visitors from across the country to celebrate Métis culture through music, dance, food, sport, and traditional teachings. 

City of Humboldt expands housing plan following approval of additional federal funding

The City of Humboldt is pursuing an expanded housing initiative under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), following its February 2025 report to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) confirming compliance with program requirements. 

Rural and Remote Health Minister Lori Carr to continue summer tour in Nokomis, Wynyard, and Foam Lake

Rural and Remote Health Minister Lori Carr will be making stops in East Central Saskatchewan as part of her continued summer tour of the province. Upcoming visits are scheduled in Nokomis, Wynyard, and Foam Lake, where she will meet with local leaders and health care staff and tour health facilities.

Rain provides relief in Manitoba's latest crop report

A spokesperson for Manitoba Agriculture says it remains to be seen what sort of damage was felt on fields from last week's hail.

Hail was reported in numerous locations across the province, and Oilseed Specialist Sonia Wilson says producers will typically leave those crops for five to seven days, just to see how they rebound, before assessing them for hail damage.
