Royals silence Hoppers bats in 9-0 victory
The Marysburg Royals shut out the Saskatoon Hoppers on Thursday night, picking up a 9-0 victory.
Joel Bauml, Jeff Marshak and Thomas Lessmeister all chipped in to keep the Hoppers off the scoreboard.
Bauml got the victory, tossing five innings, allowing six hits with seven strikeouts. Marshak and Lessmeister each had a scoreless inning.
STARS and Wadena first responders assist in medical emergency at Fishing Lake North Shore
A post on social media reports that Wadena Volunteer Fire and Wadena EMS were dispatched at 8:19 pm to North Shore Fishing Lake for an emergency incident.
STARS responded and WVFD set up a landing zone in the ball diamond parking lot.
The patient, whose condition remains undisclosed, was transferred to Saskatoon for further treatment.

When Nutrien Ag Solutions announced the winners of its first Hometown Yield Challenge, the Muenster Community Center also stood in the winner's circle. The program, available to growers in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, selected the top two yielding farming operations and awarded them a $20,000 check to be passed on to a community organization of their choice.
Canada adds surprise 83,000 jobs in June, driving unemployment rate down to 6.9%
Canada’s labour market topped expectations in June amid a surprise surge in hiring.
Statistics Canada said Friday that the unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point to 6.9 per cent in June as the economy added some 83,000 jobs.
The vast majority of those jobs were part-time, the agency said, with 47,000 positions added in the private sector.
A Reuters poll of economists heading into Friday’s release had expected the jobless rate would rise to 7.1 per cent in June as employment levels held flat.

Bushman, Grest and Gregg serve up a delightful lunchhour concert
It was another great burger time Fiesta at the Humboldt district museum on Thursday, July 10th.
A pleasant day was made even more delightful with the musical accompaniment of Walter Bushman, Brian Grest, and special drop in guest on drums and vocals Nathan Gregg. The trio served up some great summertime music including hits from the eagles, Neil Young, the birds, and Walter's perennial favorite “Old Hippie” by The Bellamy Brothers.
The East Central 18UAAA Red Sox edge Giants in Thursday night pitchers' duel
The East Central 18UAAA Red Sox were more than a handful for the Saskatoon Giants last night at James Korte Field in Muenster.
The 3-1 win was in part thanks to a 10 strike out, rock solid performance by Taylor Coleman on the mound. Coleman gave up only five hits and one run over his six inning stand.
More rain would be welcomed by local producers
A combination of warm and wet growing conditions has allowed crops to develop nicely around the Humboldt area according to the latest Crop Report from the Ministry of Agriculture, but producers have noted some uneven crop staging which is making fungicide timing difficult. Many producers are applying fungicides to crops given the recent environmental conditions.
