Beavers' offense awakens, delivers knockout punch in late innings

The Weyburn Beavers found themselves down by four runs when they came up to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday night against the Swift Current 57s. Some timely hits, though, would turn the tide. Niko Kekatos and Halen Otte would both go yard in the 7th inning, with Kekatos’ being a two-run no-doubter to left field and Otte’s a towering blast to right-centre, as the Beavers would rally to overcome the deficit and go on to an 8-5 victory.  

Weyburn Beavers fall short in weekend homestand

The Weyburn Beavers were at home at Tom Laing Park for a pair of games on the weekend, as the Regina Red Sox came to town on Friday, and then the Saskatoon Berries paid a visit on Sunday.  

In the game Friday, the Red Sox took an early lead and held on, keeping the Beavers off the basepaths as best they could, before blowing the game open with two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to pick up an 8-1 win.  

Heck of a performance: Beavers snap skid with big win at home

The Weyburn Beavers snapped their 17-game losing skid spectacularly Tuesday night. Ian Heck went 7 2/3 innings on the mound, striking out ten, and allowing just one run, as Niko Kekatos and Robert Gurney both hit two-run home runs in the sixth inning as the Beavers beat the visiting Regina Red Sox 5-1.  

Kekatos, Webster, Mould provide offensive spark for Beavers despite loss

After coming away from their road trip to Alberta without a win, the Weyburn Beavers were looking for a game at home to bounce back, and get into the win column. They entertained the Moose Jaw Miller Express at Tom Laing Park and gave Ian Heck the start on the mound. Moose Jaw, however, took advantage of some miscues in the first two innings to open up a big lead and held on for a 10-4 victory.  

Heck throws complete game, but Beavers fall to Giants

The Weyburn Beavers played the second leg of their Alberta road swing Wednesday night, after taking the nearly five-hour trip from Sherwood Park, Alberta, where they played the Edmonton Prospects, to Fort McMurray, where they played the Giants.  

The Beavers would be able to get the runners on base, collecting 11 hits in the game, but could only bring two of those runners home, leaving nine on base, as the Giants edged past Weyburn 3-2.  

Heck homers, but Beavers' offense falls short in Edmonton

The Weyburn Beavers opened up the annual Alberta road swing last night as they travelled to Sherwood Park to play the Edmonton Prospects.  

The Beavers would build up a lead through the first five innings, going up 4-1, before the Prospects exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, and held on for a 7-4 victory.  

Kekatos keeps hitting streak alive despite Beavers' blowout loss

It was a long night for the Weyburn Beavers last night. The visiting Regina Red Sox would score nine runs in the first two innings and just continued to extend the lead, leaving Tom Laing Park with a 21-4 victory. The game was called with two outs in the top of the 9th inning, as rain returned to Weyburn.  

Weyburn overpowers Medicine Hat in dominant performance

“A little bit of everything,” said Weyburn Beavers head coach Cam Williams about what went well in Tuesday night’s game against the Medicine Hat Mavericks. The Beavers racked up 14 hits, while the pitching staff struck out eight as they won 11-3 over the number two team in the East Division at Tom Laing Park.  

Rain, runs, and rescheduled games: Beavers' weekend recap

A weekend of highs, lows, and postponements for the Weyburn Beavers as they played two of their three scheduled games this weekend.  

The weekend started with a game against the Moose Jaw Miller Express Friday night at Tom Laing Park. The Miller Express would hamme starting pitcher Ryan Meyer early, scoring seven runs off him in the first two innings as they went on to a 12-6 victory.
