Longtime broadcaster Dreger inducted into Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame
Over the weekend, longtime broadcaster Clayton Dreger was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.
Dreger retired in January of this year and he says it's been everything he thought it would be. "Awesome," he says with that well known smile. "That's the word I've told everybody who's asked, it really is. When 7:30 p.m. rolled around and you knew that it was time to go to bed because the alarm goes off at 2:00 a.m. No, it's just so amazing to stay up till 11:30 and wake up at 6:50, plan your day, do whatever, yeah, it's been pretty special."
Manitoba Potato Report: many fields have started showing tuber initiation
Manitoba Agriculture has released the latest edition of the Potato Report - here is the Executive Summary
Joint Statement by the G7 Farmers’ Organizations
Farmers across the G7 are confronting unprecedented pressures as the world faces overlapping geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges. Inflation, high interest rates, and continued fallout from recent financial shocks have destabilized farm economies. At the same time, trade disruptions, and fractured supply chains are compounding uncertainty in the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, the impacts of climate change—more frequent droughts, floods, and extreme weather—are threatening productivity and straining rural infrastructure.

Community spirit shines at 71st Annual Lundar Fair
From restored vintage tractors to hand-knitted crafts and cattle shows, the 71st annual Lundar Agricultural Fair proved once again that rural pride and volunteerism are alive and well in Manitoba.
Held over a packed two-day weekend, the fair attracted visitors from across the Interlake region and beyond. Whether you were for the home-living exhibits, the 4-H cattle display, or the bustling parade, the fair offered something for everyone, made possible entirely by the tireless efforts of local volunteers.
Koko Platz Rec Club seeks volunteers as new rink nears completion
The Koko Platz Community Recreation Centre is on track for an August opening, and the board is actively looking for volunteers to help operate the facility once it opens.
The club has been a community-driven project, with fundraising efforts raising more than $700,000 to rebuild the rink and centre after a devastating fire. While insurance proceeds have covered rebuilding the main structure, a $261,888 shortfall in the rink’s construction budget was recently covered by a transfer from the City of Portage la Prairie’s General Infrastructure Reserve.

No sweep in Gary as Railcats top Goldeyes
The Gary SouthShore RailCats (9-24) avoided a series sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-18) Sunday afternoon with a 9-1 victory at U.S. Steel Yard.
The RailCats got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when first baseman Joe Suozzi drew a bases-loaded walk that forced in LG Castillo. One pitch later, right fielder Jake Guenther – claimed off waivers from the Goldeyes one week ago – hit a grand slam to right field to make the score 5-0.
Carney's task at G7 will be to keep the group alive as experts question the outcome
As Prime Minister Mark Carney gets ready to host U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders at the G7 summit in Alberta, analysts say Canada's most important goal will be to keep the G7 from falling apart — even if that means not issuing a joint statement.
"Keeping this informal international organization together will, I think, be a mark of success," said Sen. Peter Boehm, a former diplomat who played a central role in Canada’s participation in the G7 for decades.
