From blueprints to house keys: Habitat for Humanity's summer of community building

As one Habitat home is officially complete with the owners receiving the keys to their new home during the key ceremony, the next building project begins!

This summer there are three Habitat for Humanity projects in the works in the Westman Region: Killarney, Neepawa, and Portage where committee members are actively seeking families and finalizing their build plans and blueprints.

The Virden Chapter just completed their build project last October followed by a special key ceremony and so they're still enjoying the success of that project before delving into a new one.

APAS launches 'Unleashing Agriculture' agenda ahead of federal election

Ottawa police name suspect in Parliament Hill lockdown incident

Ottawa police have released the name of the person they say was behind a massive security incident on Parliament Hill over the weekend.

Police say Tyler Hall-Worthington, a 31-year-old Ottawa man, has been charged in connection with the lockdown Saturday afternoon at East Block, a building in the parliamentary precinct that mainly houses offices for senators and their staff.

An Ottawa police spokesperson told The Canadian Press that the suspect was still in custody as of Monday morning.

Portage la Prairie RCMP investigating multiple rural break and enters

The Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating a series of rural property thefts that occurred this past Sunday April 6th. Between 3:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., officers responded to multiple reports of thefts involving property and off-road vehicles in the North Norfolk Rural Municipality.

Family Resource Centre introduces 'Pearl'

The Family Resource Centre (FRC) in Portage la Prairie is rolling out several exciting updates for the community this spring. Executive Director Melissa Morrison shared details on new initiatives and upcoming events.

A highlight at the FRC is the introduction of a new van, affectionately named 'Pearl'. The centre recently upgraded its transportation from a 15-passenger van to an 8-passenger model.

Manitoba farmer describes terrifying armed robbery on family farm

A scary incident unfolded in the area over the weekend. Mark Klippenstein, a Manitoba farmer, shared the distressing experience his cousin had after six armed individuals stormed their family farm early Sunday morning. Six robbers, armed with weapons, were captured on camera as they approached the farm, took keys from a truck in the driveway, and moved toward the shop area, all while holding what appeared to be guns to the door of the house.

Curling season finds itself quickly winding down, and two Portagers will be coming home with some extra hardware following the Canadian Masters Curling Championship.
