2 women escape from healing lodge

Two inmates remain at large after escaping from a Winnipeg healing lodge late last week.

In a press release the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says that on September 16, 2022 approximately 10:30 p.m., staff members at Eagle Women’s Healing Lodge, a minimum security level Section 81 Healing Lodge, discovered that residents Christine Goodwin and Hailey Regent were not accounted for.

The CSC immediately contacted the Winnipeg Police Service and warrants for their arrest have been issued.

Temperatures well into the 30s are hitting much of the province, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority has tips for staying safe.

The authority says illnesses related to heat include heat rash (skin irritation), heat cramps (muscle cramps), heat edema (swelling of hands, feet, and ankles), heat fainting, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Expansion coming for Candace House

A local organization that helps victims and survivors of violent crime is getting some help themselves from the Manitoba government.

Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen and Municipal Affairs Minister Eileen Clarke announced on Thursday that the province will be providing $200,000 to assist in the renovation and expansion of Candace House.

Province issues travel advisory and delayed openings for some provincial park campgrounds

Warmer weather has finally arrived but some outdoor enthusiasts will still have to wait to get into some provincial parks and campgrounds due to high water and plenty of snow still left in some areas.

The Manitoba Government sent out a release on Tuesday evening with a travel advisory for Nopiming Provincial Park, as well as delayed openings for several campgrounds.
