Sensitive Hearts
2 Corinthians 7:10
Can you name people today who seem to listen carefully to God—people whose hearts are especially sensitive to the Holy Spirit?
I can almost guarantee that those are men and women who know whatit is to be broken and bruised. They have the scars to prove it.
Perhaps as you read these words you bear the marks of a carnal week, day after day in which you've gone your own way and grieved the Spirit of God. And now you come to these pages with desperation to change in your heart—to learn from God and renew your fellowship with Him.
The Will to Do God’s Will
Matthew 6:9
By merely reviewing the first few lines of the Lord's Prayer, we gain a renewed respect...a healthy and wholesome sense of reverence for our Almighty God and Father.
Rather than causing us to run from Him and hide in fear, I find that such an awesome respect makes me want to come close to Him, to wait quietly for Him to work. And so I urge you to slow your pace, to approach His "hallowed name" thoughtfully.
Sails Set Toward Joy
Proverbs 15:13
The Image of God’s Son
2 Corinthians 3:18
Developing Inward Beauty
Proverbs 31:30
External beauty is ephemeral. Internal beauty is eternal. The former is attractive to the world; the latter is pleasing to God.Peter describes this inner beauty as a "gentle and quiet spirit" (1 Peter 3:4).
This might be paraphrased "a gentle tranquillity."Without question, this is any woman's most powerful quality—true character.
Mercy Beyond Misery
Luke 1:50
I have a dear friend who stayed by his wife's side for almost a year as she was dying with ovarian cancer. He told me of such occasions, when the Lord gave merciful relief from the pain. He said it wasalmost as if an angel of mercy hovered over their room. When we're suffering the consequences of unfair treatment, there is mercy with God.
When we're enduring the grief of loss, there is mercy. When we struggle with the limitations of a handicap, there is mercy. When we're hurting and in physical pain, there is mercy.
Selfish Desires or God’s Desires?
Proverbs 17:3
Ask yourself three questions of discipleship:As you think through the major decisions you have recently made (during the past six to eight months), have they pleased the Lord or fedyour ego?Have you begun to take your personal goals and desires before the Lord or fed your ego?
