Trump's auto tariffs derail Carney's federal election campaign plans

Liberal Leader Mark Carney is back in Ottawa today to deal with the fallout of new auto tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. 

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Carney said he was suspending his campaign plans for the day and would return to Ottawa to hold a meeting of the Canada-U.S. cabinet committee.

It's unclear when Carney will be back on the road to continue campaigning.

Local business donates computers to help Cochrane families

Families and individuals in need now have access to free refurbished computers thanks to a partnership between Cochrane Cochrane Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) and local business Cochrane Computers.

Ron Sullivan, owner of Cochrane Computers, has donated 18 refurbished computers to FCSS. “My customers bring in old computers for recycling, and we put new solid-state drives in them, install Linux, and give them away,” says Sullivan.

Country music icon Shania Twain has been named the Parade Marshal for the 2025 Calgary Stampede Parade.

The five-time GRAMMY winner will lead the festivities as part of the countdown to the world-famous event, set to begin in just 100 days.

Twain, who last performed at the Stampede in 2014, expressed her excitement about the honour.

Cochrane RCMP to launch body-worn cameras in April

The Cochrane RCMP is set to begin using body-worn cameras next month, with officers scheduled for training on April 7th, 8th, and 9th.

Following this in-person training, officers will begin wearing the cameras while on duty.

According to Cochrane RCMP Insp. Dave Brunner, the introduction of body-worn cameras is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and public trust.

Liberals and Conservatives taking their federal election campaigns to Quebec

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Liberal Leader Mark Carney are shifting their campaigns to Quebec.

Poilievre, who held a rally in Hamilton on Tuesday night with an estimated crowd of about 4,500 people, is expected at a news conference in Montmagny, Que., around noon and at a rally in Quebec City in the evening.

Carney, who spent the first few days of the campaign in Atlantic Canada, will be in Ontario today, scheduled for an announcement and a facility tour in Windsor, a facility tour in London and a rally in Kitchener.  

Cochrane Foundation donates over $95,000 to wide range of causes

The Cochrane Foundation hosted its 2025 Granting Ceremony last night (Mar. 25), celebrating the impact of local philanthropy and recognizing this year’s grant recipients.

The event honoured local non-profits and recipients of the Dr. George McQuitty Memorial Scholarship, highlighting the role of community generosity in shaping Cochrane’s future.

Foundation president and encee Tim Harvie presented an incredible $89,412 in capital grants to 19 organizations, plus six $1,000 McQuitty Scholarships to support future medical professionals, for a total of $95,412.
