Local man gets provincial recognition for volunteerism
A Cochrane man has won an award from the province for his volunteer services throughout the Cochrane Community.
Paul Singh has been recognised by the Alberta Northern Lights Volunteer Program, for his support of local youth organisations and efforts to build a more welcoming community.
“I was thrilled that I got nominated for such a big award,” says Singh. “I wasn't aware that I was nominated, I'm honoured and I'm thankful to the people of Cochrane who nominated me and looking forward to keep continuing the work.”

Helping Hands food drive set for Cochrane north communities
Cochrane north residents have a few days to prepare for the upcoming Helping Hands food drive.
Volunteers will be making their rounds in Sunset Ridge, Cochrane Heights, Sunterra, Monterra and Western Rocky View County on Saturday, collecting food donations for the Cochrane food bank.
Food Security Programs Manager with the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area, April Baird said they understand that money is tight for a lot of people and they appreciate each and every donation.
Cougar sighting triggers warning at Kananaskis campground
A warning has been issued in Kananaskis Country after a cougar was spotted at a campground.
Boulton Creek Campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, is under a cougar warning due to the sighting.
The warning will be in effect until further notice.
The campground is approximately 50 kilometres south of the TransCanada Highway on Highway 40.
Alberta Parks warns that cougars may be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region, at any time.
Huge win on road for Bow Valley Bobcats
The Bow Valley Bobcats have notched their first win of the season with a huge 24-3 win over the Chestermere Lakers, Sept. 13.
"It's an all-around team win," says Bobcats head coach Dustin Paul. "We played well on all three sides of the ball and I'm happy with how we performed on Friday. It was kind of like we had the wake-up call that we needed, and we showed up and played how we know we can play."
Terry Fox Run exceeds target by over 50 per cent
Yesterday's Terry Fox Run exceeded its funding raising target by over 50 per cent.
The Terry Fox Run Cochrane (TFRC) organizing committee says that number may climb slightly higher but as of yesterday afternoon they had raised $31,235, a staggering 50 per cent increase over its former high-water mark in fundraising for cancer research in Terry Fox’s name.
The TFRC has set a goal of $20,000, the amount they raised in 2023.

Soon, they discovered it was the sound of a cannon being fired as part of the 4th annual Legion Show on Sept. 14 that attracted a solid crowd of spectators throughout the day.
The event featured plenty of military memorabilia and a chance to share stories while kicking off the celebration of National Legion Week.
