Legion House One adding dignity and respect to lives of residents through kitchen renos
Morden's Legion House One (LH1) had kitchens in 5 units replaced, thanks to Decor Cabinets, local plumbers and electricians pitching in to upgrade the dark, well worn, 42-year-old units, according to Property Manager Marina Brown.
LH1 Resident Alana Kelly described her cabinets before the renovation was completed.
Councilor Candidate Megan Giesbrecht says Morden needs involvement otherwise, "we don't have community"
Morden by-election candidate Megan Giesbrecht was born and raised in Winkler and moved to Winnipeg. When choosing to move back to the Pembina Valley, she decided to live in Morden for its beauty and tight-knit feel. She opened her salon business in Winkler in 2020.
The timing of this decision and the challenges she faced, influenced her decision to run for Morden City Council.
New École Discovery Trails to be dual track school
Morden's new school, set to open next school year, has officially been named and more of the details about programming for the much-anticipated new learning space are being released.
Western School Division Board Chair Brian Fransen said the board passed the official name at the last public meeting, as they needed to submit a name to the government. A small change has been made to the name previously announced.
Council candidate Dave Hildebrand wants to make Morden great again
Dave Hildebrand is one of seven City of Morden Candidates running in the December 20th election, hoping to fill one of two empty councilor seats.
He was born in Morden.
"I went to school there, spent grade 5, 6 and 7 in Northern BC, Northern Alberta, Central Alberta. When we came home to Morden, it was home and I want to emphasize "home." My father broke farmland South of Morden behind a horse and a single plow, sod buster. Mother shoveled gravel into wagons for our first dam, back in the 30s."
His farming background made an impact on his life.
Morden-Winkler MLA Carrie Hiebert commits to holding new government to account
The first session of the 43rd Manitoba Government opened this week with the first Speech from the Throne from Manitoba's new Premier Wab Kinew and his NDP government. The speech was delivered by Lt. Governor the Honourable Anita Neville.
Also new to the role as MLA for Morden-Winkler, Carrie Hiebert attended her first throne speech as a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

Over one hundred and fifty women from across Manitoba registered for the Manitoba Farm Women's Conference (MFWC) held in Winkler November 21st, 22nd, 23rd. Three days were set aside to "Educate, Encourage and Empower" farming women. There were tours of local agricultural spaces, plenty of learning opportunities ranging from mental health and getting organized to succession and building a healthy credit history along with time to network, to interact and to put on the cowboy boots to line dance.

Morden Fire & Rescue called to three vehicle fire on an early, cold morning
Morden Fire & Rescue crews were called out to a vehicle fire early Thursday morning.
Fire Chief Andy Thiessen tells the story.
"We got the call about 1:30 in the morning. Police noticed the car fire in the compound. We responded, and of course, there were three vehicles involved. Basically, one vehicle will have started spreading to the other two. No other damage to buildings or anything like that. So, that part was good."
While the cause of the fire has not been fully determined, it does appear to be electrical, according to Chief Thiessen.
Morden Mayoral Candidate Nicholas Hoeppner wants to "go big or go home" to get more young people involved
Two people are vying for the position of mayor in Morden's December 20th by-election, former city councilor Nancy Penner and Morden resident Nicholas Hoeppner.
At 24, Hoeppner has decided to "go big or go home" and run for top spot on city council.
