National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrated in Morden
National Indigenous Peoples Day was celebrated in the Morden Park Bowl Saturday afternoon put on by the Pembina Valley Truth and Action Working Group (TAWG). With guest speakers sharing information on the past, present and future of indigenous people in Canada, traditional drumming and dancing with regalia adorned dancers from Roseau River First Nation, celebrated Indigenous culture.
TAWG Committee Member Courtney Yeo-Thiessen shared her feelings about the day.
Two families given keys to a place to call their own
Habitat For Humanity Morden-Winkler (H4HMW) Chapter handed over the keys to two families Saturday morning in Morden, giving thanks to the City of Morden, Habitat for Humanity, community sponsors and all the volunteers for helping make this dream of building its first duplex, a reality.

The Manitou Nellie McClung Heritage Site (NMHS) held its annual 'Lilac & Lace Luncheon' fundraiser to celebrate Nellie McClung's 150th birthday. The event took place on Thursday at Winnipeg's historic Metropolitan, where the sold-out event brought people together to do more than raise money, according to NMHS Co-Chair Barbara Biggar.

Swan Lake First Nation Elder Dave Scott has many roles in the community in addition to being an elder. He is a Spiritual Leader, a historian and Indigenous Environmental Expert. He advises council and programs on environmental and laws and policies that impact Indigenous people. His first law is to look at all people as human beings first and has dedicated his life to rebuilding relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, especially youth.

Western School Division Board of Trustees has revealed their board priority plan for the next four years, which will guide the work of the division. It's based on the feedback received from staff, students and the community.

"Women Talking" screening hopes to put safety and openess first, over power
Close to 200 people came out to the film screening of the 2023 Academy Award Winning movie for Best Adapted Screenplay, "Women Talking" written by Steinbach author Miriam Toews. A story about women who were sexually and physically abused by men in a Mennonite colony in Bolivia from 2005-2009. The movie is a fictitious rendition about the secret discussion the women had about what they were going to do.
Genesis House Executive Director Ang Braun explained why it was important to show the movie, followed by a discussion panel.
Seven decades dedicated to baseball in Manitoba, Joe Wiwchar one of five inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame
Hardly a hand in the room that didn't go up on Saturday at the Access Event Centre in Morden, when asked if they were coached by Joe Wiwchar in baseball. Wiwchar is headed this week to Toronto to receive an honour given to only five Manitobans so far. He'll be officially inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
