"I'm just thankful and honoured to have been alive during her reign," says Winkler's Mackenzie Dunseath

Winkler's Mackenzie Dunseath always dreamed of meeting Queen Elizabeth II.  She had a long relationship with Her Majesty and recalls the stories her parents told to her over and over again about the opportunities they had to meet her.  

Dunseath was planning on going to school this year in Northern England and planned to meet her when she was there. 

Morden hosts Jonny Harris and the "Still Standing" crew for taping of an episode

An excited crowd of people gathered outside Morden's Kenmor Theatre last Wednesday night, in anticipation of the CBC comedy show Still Standing, that travels across Canada featuring places and the people living in different communities, put to the backdrop of a standup comedy sketch, hosted by Comedian Jonny Harris. 

The show is going into its eighth season, and Producer Alex Lazarowich said they typically feature communities facing unique challenges. 

Queen Elizabeth II's passing through the English lens of former Mordenite Garrett Deceuninck

Last week, Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning Monarch in British history, passed away leaving many people shocked and saddened by the news.  

Reporter Robyn Wiebe reached out to former Morden resident Garrett Deceuninck, who grew up in Morden and graduated from Morden Collegiate in 2014.

Morden's Barnswallow Quilt Guild’s Manitoba 150 Quilt finally revealed

It is unknown how many hours of planning went in the creation of the mosaic Manitoba 150 quilt finally revealed over two years after the original reveal date of May 2020, when the Quilt Show is held each year in Morden.   

Former President of the Barnswallow Quilt Guild (BQG), Allison Halstead talked about the planning of the mosaic quilt to represent the project that began over three years ago.

Many people took in Manitou's Honey, Garlic and Maple Syrup Festival this weekend.  With tours of the Nellie McClung Homes, RM of Pembina Bus Tours and a Coffee House at the Manitou Opera House featuring music from the band, Leaf Rapids started off the weekend on Friday.   

People come from all across Canada to Morden’s Lake Minnewasta

“It was a good year, overall,” said Brian Thiessen, Morden’s Lake Minnewasta Campground Director, about the summer of 2022. 

“Looking back, the spring probably hurt us the most with the late start, the wet conditions. The weather didn't seem to warm up till later on, so it took a bit of time for us to dry out up here. Then, the summer went along famously. We got to see people from different areas again, not just the locals. We had people as far away as Texas, South Carolina, Vancouver Island, and Quebec, which is good to see there's people out traveling again.” 

Morden's Nicole Walske is the new Executive Director at Menzies Medical Centre

There's a new Executive Director at Menzies Medical Centre (MMC) filling the shoes of past ED Karen Chezick who served the clinic for 14 years.  Morden's Nicole Walske has been hired to lead the clinic. She began her work in June.

She brings with her twenty-five years of experience in the dentistry field, which she noted is a bit different in what she is used to but shared what makes her excited work at MMC.
