Boil Water Advisory rescinded in Morden

On May 1st, a Boil Water Advisory was issued for the City of Morden.  Twenty days later, Director of Operations Tim Reimer shared some good news.

"This (Friday) morning we received our letter from the Drinking Water Officer that we are able to rescind the Boil Water Advisory. We have met all the requirements, the water has all been tested and is safe and good for consumption again."

Reimer recommends letting your tap run for a few minutes to flush out the lines before drinking or brushing your teeth, if you are having issues with clarity or odour.

Displaced Ukrainians finding safety and a new beginning in Morden

Ukraine to Morden 2022 has welcomed nine families to Morden through the Canada Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) Program so far, with a potential of 20 more. Families arriving are welcomed at the Winnipeg Airport, often by their host family members or by another volunteer and are taken to live with a host family temporarily. 

Daniil Kyselov and his wife, Anastasiia Kharlamova, were one of the first families to arrive in Morden in April.    

Morden receives annual $50,000 Community Mobilization Hub Grant

Morden was the recipient of a community Mobilization Hub (CMH) Grant from the provincial government last week Thursday. An application for the grant was sent in to the province on behalf of the task force through the Morden Community Development Corporation (MCDC) and the City of Morden.  The task force is a collaborative team of people from Morden including City of Morden staff, MCDC, Westside Community Church and a number of non-profit organizations and government agencies who cast the vision and worked together to bring the project this far.

Campground bookings at Morden's Lake Minnewasta are off to a great start

May first marked the opening of Lake Minnewasta Campground registrations. Campground Director Brian Thiessen said those wanting a long weekend site may need to act fast. 

"The starting bookings of the season have been really good. The usuals are filling up our long weekend is almost full. July-long has one site left, technically, and then as the calls keep coming in, we'll just keep plugging people in as they are."  

Manitoba fire fighters support Ukraine with donations

When the Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs (MAFC) sent out an email to all departments across the province asking for donations of used gear and anything else that could be used to support Ukraine, the Winkler Fire Department was one of the first to answer the call.

Morden Corn & Apple Festival returns this summer

Another popular Manitoba summer festival is set to make a near-normal return this year after the pandemic forced its cancellation for the past two years.

The Morden Corn & Apple Festival, famous for free buttered corn and local apple cider, three stages of entertainment, a midway and bus tours, is credited for bringing in 80,000 visitors to the area over the course of the weekend.
