Winkler Chamber experiencing steady growth
The Winkler & District Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting luncheon Thursday, gathering together business leaders and chamber members from all sectors to celebrate another year of growth.
Chamber President Hank Froese said it was a good year marked by several achievements.

Minnewasta Grade 2 students gathered in the music room on Tuesday to listen to Pamela Hiebert from Friesens Corporation read Fishing with Grandma by Maren Vsetula and Susan Avingaq - illustrated by Charlene Chua and published by Inhabit Media.
Finance Minister Sala meets with Western School Division and other groups in the area
While the province's budget consultation, slated earlier this month in Winkler, was cancelled, Finance Minister Adrien Sala and David Pankratz, the MLA for Waverly, did meet with some groups in the area.
Western School Division Vice Chair Darcy Wolfe shared a bit about the board's meeting with the minister.
A tearful good-bye to Western SD Trustee David Guenther
There were some tears shed at last Monday night's Western School Division School Board's public meeting, with the announcement of Trustee and former Board Vice-Chair David Guenther's resignation, according to Board Vice-Chair Darcy Wolfe, "And more probably will be shed," as Guenther is moving to Tennessee.
Guenther was just a father of 2 young children with one on the way when he was acclaimed to his first term in 2018.
Maple Leaf Elementary School in Morden loves to read
Pembina Valley Online Reporter Robyn Wiebe and Miss Darlene Klassen from Friesens Corporation were in Morden at Maple Leaf Elementary School on Thursday.
Grade two students were really excited to hear the book each one of them was going to take home with them at the end of the day called, "Fishing with Grandma."
The book is written by Inuk author Susan Avingaq with Maren Vsetula and illustrated by Charlene Chua. It's published by Inhabit Media.
Students full of pride to see artwork on display in Morden
A must-see exhibit is taking place at the Pembina Hills Arts Council in Morden. A variety of work from grade four students from Maple Leaf and Minnewasta Elementary Schools is on display for community members to enjoy called, "Artful Narratives: A Children's Exhibition."
Minnewasta student Ruby Wiebe wrote a persuasive piece and created a clay likeness of a dog waiting to be adopted by the Pembina Valley Humane Society (PVHS).
Student voice valued in Western School Division
It's an annual tradition in Western School Division for trustees, principals and vice principals and senior administration to gather at the Morden Collegiate Backstage Theatre with students from grade 4-12 for the Student Leadership Forum. Students are assigned to a group for the morning and afternoon where they take part in fun activities followed by round table discussions.

The Business Excellence of the Year Award goes to...
The Morden Chamber of Commerce celebrated business excellence Thursday night without much of a hitch, with blustery weather threatening to keep people away.
Guests enjoyed networking with others, eating a meal and waiting to hear who would walk away with the coveted Business Excellence Award.
Chamber Board Chair Tyler Shroeder was pleased with the evening.
