Efforts are being made to preserve a historical building in La Broquerie, MB.

The St. Joachim Parish received historical status in 2000. While there are many older structures across Manitoba, very few have historical status, especially in the southeast. Lucien Grenier, a member of the church’s financial committee, shares that such status is remarkable not only to the people in the municipality or town of La Broquerie, but to anyone with a family history of immigration to Canada.

The Woodridge Community Centre has been operating as the designated reception site for residents who have been ordered to evacuate in the RM of Piney as a result of ongoing wildfires. 

The municipality declared a state of emergency at 6 p.m. on Monday due to a fire that started between Carrick and Badger on Saturday. 

The fire had grown to over 1,000 hectares by Tuesday morning and continued to spread all day as a result of high winds, heat, and dry conditions.  

Elmer Hildebrand, the Chief Executive Officer of Golden West received the King Charles III Coronation Medal from Provencher Member of Parliament Ted Falk Tuesday evening.

The King Charles III Coronation Medal was created to be a visible and tangible way to recognize 30,000 outstanding Canadian individuals of all ages and all walks of life who have made a difference in their communities.  

Hildebrand says it is a great honour to receive a medal such as this, noting he shares that honour with everyone at Golden West.

The RCMP are looking to fix staffing shortages across the province and the Prairies.  

Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy is the Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Manitoba. He says it's no secret we need more officers. 

“We have a number of vacancies across the RCMP jurisdiction in all of our areas, more focused in northern Manitoba. Overall, we're running about 15% vacancies where don't have officers in in identified positions.” 

When doing end-of-season landscaping, Manitoba Hydro says there are a few things residents need to remember.

A 24-year-old man from Vita is facing drug trafficking related charges following an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service.

In August 2024, the WPS Guns and Gangs Unit entered into an investigation regarding a criminal network trafficking cocaine in Winnipeg and within northern First Nations communities. 

Steinbach Bible College will be moving to a new campus in 2026.  

The announcement was made Thursday morning in a joint statement from both the Steinbach Bible College and Steinbach Christian School. The two organizations currently share a building but the Christian school recently acquired all of SBC’s properties. 

SBC President Dave Reimer says they already have their new home picked out.
