Efforts are being made to preserve a historical building in La Broquerie, MB.
The St. Joachim Parish received historical status in 2000. While there are many older structures across Manitoba, very few have historical status, especially in the southeast. Lucien Grenier, a member of the church’s financial committee, shares that such status is remarkable not only to the people in the municipality or town of La Broquerie, but to anyone with a family history of immigration to Canada.
Community rallies as wildfires force evacuations in RM of Piney
The Woodridge Community Centre has been operating as the designated reception site for residents who have been ordered to evacuate in the RM of Piney as a result of ongoing wildfires.
The municipality declared a state of emergency at 6 p.m. on Monday due to a fire that started between Carrick and Badger on Saturday.
The fire had grown to over 1,000 hectares by Tuesday morning and continued to spread all day as a result of high winds, heat, and dry conditions.

RCMP tackling staffing shortages across Manitoba
The RCMP are looking to fix staffing shortages across the province and the Prairies.
Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy is the Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Manitoba. He says it's no secret we need more officers.
“We have a number of vacancies across the RCMP jurisdiction in all of our areas, more focused in northern Manitoba. Overall, we're running about 15% vacancies where don't have officers in in identified positions.”

The announcement was made Thursday morning in a joint statement from both the Steinbach Bible College and Steinbach Christian School. The two organizations currently share a building but the Christian school recently acquired all of SBC’s properties.
