Portage hospital chief of staff speaks to smoky conditions

Mayor Knox expresses air quality concerns
Portage la Prairie Mayor Sharilyn Knox is addressing citizen concerns about the haze and smoke caused by wildfires in Canada. Mayor Knox emphasizes the importance of being prepared and taking precautions for personal health and well-being.
"You really want to be paying attention to what the Federal Government are saying about these changes." Knox explains, "Wildfire smoke, can be very hazardous to your health, so making sure that you're making the decisions that are best for you and your families when you're going camping or spending out time outside."

McHappy Day brings community together
Portage's own McDonalds held it's annual McHappy Day fundraiser this week. With 10 per cent of every purchase made going to the Ronald McDonald House and other local charities.
Portage RCMP officers and Firefighters were in attendance at the event to collect donations and take photos with anyone attending.
The owner of the Portage McDonald's, Kelsey Filion Drozduk, was very thankful and proud of the community coming together for the good cause.
Bike Week cycling through Portage!
For the first time in three years, Portage la Prairie is having Bike Week in its entirety. There will be several events starting on May 27th and concluding on June 2nd.
Portage Community Revitalization Corporation's Community Engagement Coordinator, Lorna Knight, says after the kickoff there will be at least two activities a day for the rest of Bike Week.
