Winkler Police Chief says assistance from other agencies a huge asset in executing "Project RECOIL"

The seizure of numerous firearms and thousands of rounds of ammo in Winkler is an eye-opener, says Police Chief Ryan Hunt.
    
A 22-year-old Winkler man is facing a long list of charges after a multi-agency firearms manufacturing investigation called "Project RECOIL" led to his arrest on April 29th. 
    
The investigation included Winkler and Morden Police Services, as well as the RCMP D Division National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST).
    

A huge showing of support for Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign in Winkler, Morden & Carman

The people of the Pembina Valley supported the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation last week in a big way, through the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign.
    
All proceeds from the cookies sold at the Winkler and Morden locations last week will go to the foundation. During the week in Winkler and Morden, $40,608 was raised.

Brandon Burley says Southern Manitoba offers a lot of opportunities to benefit the province.

Southern Manitoba Cabinet Leader Brandon Burley says his role representing the region in the NDP cabinet is rewarding. The region Burley covers is 24,000 square kilometres.
    
Burley's role involves meeting with a broad range of stakeholders, including school boards, municipal councils, community groups, individuals, and outreach organizers.

The plan is to eventually set up a physical office, but for now, Burley has been on the road a lot.

Nominations for vacant Western School Division Trustee position opens Tuesday

The Western School Division will begin accepting nominations on May 7th to fill the vacant trustee position created by the resignation of David Guenther.

WSD's Secretary Treasurer, Carl Pedersen will serve as Senior Election Offical.

To qualify, a prospective candidate must be a Western School Division (WSD) resident for at least the past six months. A candidate must also be 18 years of age, and a Canadian citizen.

Pedersen noted that any qualifying Western School Division resident can run for the Ward 1 vacancy.

Many Hands sets goal of raising $10,000 during today's Food for All

In recent years, more people than ever are struggling to put food on the table.
    
Like many food banks across Canada, Many Hands in Morden has seen the need increase for their services. 

Executive Director, Mariyam Tsygankova says the food bank now provides hampers for over 200 families, each month.

Pembina Hills Arts Council looks to turn course on its financial situation in the year ahead

The Pembina Hills Arts Council (P.H.A.C.) held its annual general meeting last week, a time for the board to share a review of the past year, and a look at plans and priorities for the year ahead.
    
Chairperson, Lorne Stelmach said it was the first full year, post-pandemic, they could resume their full slate of programs, which was a huge highlight for the council. Overall, Stelmach said there was a good response for all activities, and it was great to have more people back participating with the gallery.

Drawings for Southland Mall revamp hits the desk of MSTW, says General Manager

It's been discussed for many years - the revamp of Winkler's Southland Mall.
    
Last November it was announced Winners would be coming to the mall, creating a lot of excitement. 
    
MSTW General Manager Glen Wieler says plans for the revitalization are in their hands. "We'll start to see that activity very shortly, which is exciting," said Wieler about the long-anticipated project.
