Celebrate National Legion Week in Humboldt

This week is National Legion Week. 

The Humboldt Royal Canadian Legion will be celebrating today with coffee and doughnuts at the Legion Clubroom from 1-3. 

While you are there, you can visit the GEO Memorial Wall and the Benson-Hingley Military Museum.

This will be the second official edition of National Legion Week. 

Which is designed to educate the work that local branches does in the community and the role branches play to serve and support our veterans. 

April 1 marked the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. 

Wilbur Sargunaraj returns with a trio of events for Culture Days

The multi-talented Wilbur Sargunaraj will be returning to Humboldt and part of the Culture Week celebration. 

Sargunaraj was in Humboldt this past March with his touring “Exploring CQ” exhibit that looked at culture in a global context. Now, he is returning for three fun events hosted by Humboldt’s Cultural Services Department with funding provided by Culture Days through SaskCulture and Sask Lotteries.  

Catch high school football action this fall on Bolt FM beginning on Thursday

The grassroots level of the gridiron is about to hit the big stage.  

107.5 Bolt FM will be broadcasting four high school football games on air, showcasing some of the best young football players in the province.  

Coverage begins on Thursday, September 19, in six-man football action as the Wakaw Warriors host the Shellbrook Aardvarks. Opening kickoff is 7:00. So far this season, Wakaw has opened with a pair of victories.  

Semi collision on Highway #2 near Holdfast

Craik RCMP along with emergency services have responded to a collision between two semis on Highway #2 approximately 1.5 km south of the Holdfast turnoff this morning around 9:30 am.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Northbound traffic in the area is down to one lane with delays expected. Motorists are asked to check the Highway Hotline for the latest status of the highway

Saskatoon Police investigating fatal collision at intersection of Highways 5 & 41

The Saskatoon Police Service Collision Analyst Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Monday night at the intersection of Highways 5 & 41.  

At approximately 7:20 pm, Saskatoon Police were notified of the collision. The initial information received was that it was a collision involving a truck and an SUV.  

Melfort RCMP search for two males involved in firearm and vehicle thefts near Naicam

Vehicle and firearm thefts have the Melfort RCMP on the lookout for those responsible.  

The break, enter and theft of firearms occurred a rural residence east of Naicam in the RM of Spalding.  

Suspect vehicles that could be involved include a white Buick Enclave, plate 432 JVG that was stolen out of Humboldt detachment. A second vehicle described as a white Dodge 3500 (1 ton), aluminum fuel tank and after market tail gate (custom flow). No plate is available.  

Virtual physician program available in Kelvington

While waiting for a new physician to arrive later this fall, the virtual physician program is now in use at the Kelvington Area and Hospital as an interim measure.

The virtual physician program is a temporary order that helps sustain and support access to emergency health services while the Saskatchewan Health Authority continues work to stabilize health human resources, particularly in rural and remote communities.

Nursing staff have remote access to a doctor with the program, with the use of the Healthline 811 technology. 

Fuel Good Day on September 17

If you can squeeze a last kilometre or two out of your gas tank, you'll be set up for Fuel Good Day tomorrow.

When you fill up your tank on Sept. 17, 2024 at a participating Co-op Gas Bar in Western Canada, Co-op will donate a minimum of five cents per litre of fuel purchased to a local registered charity or non-profit organization.

In Humboldt, proceeds go to St. Augustine School to support their reading programs. 

Pull into your local Co-op gas outlet on Tuesday and see your vehicle and your dollars go farther. 

HMBA hosts 3x3 basketball camp for middle and high school athletes

The excitement around 3x3 basketball in Humboldt continues as the Humboldt Minor Basketball Association (HMBA) announces an upcoming pre-season camp with Saskatchewan basketball mainstay Paul Humbert. 

The player development camps go on Sundays starting October 6 through to November 27. 

The 3x3 game definitely experienced a boost with hometown player and Olympian Paige Crozon heightening the local profile. 

Paving time in Humboldt

Road construction will continue in Humboldt with several streets being paved for the next three weeks.

This will include:

11th Street from 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue

4th Street from 8th Avenue to Ogilive Avenue

12th Street from 4th Avenue to 3rd Avenue

Barnes Crescent graveled area

12th Avenue from Stebbings Crescent to Lane West of 21st Street 

4th Avenue from the lane west of 10th to 14th Street

As well there will be some patch work done throughout the city
