SaskEnergy “going solar” to cut emissions at its Town Border Stations
SaskEnergy announces a project toward its continued commitment of reducing emissions in its operations. The provincial gas utility has converted its Town Border Station in southwest Regina to generate solar power as part of its commitment to cut emissions.
The Regina station is the first of several such facilities across Saskatchewan that will be converted to generate solar power over the next seven years. The increased use of renewable electricity is one of the pillars of SaskEnergy’s emissions-reduction roadmap.
Seasonal customers may save as SaskPower adjusts demand charges
Plenty of individuals and agencies need a power supply all year long without being fully operational in certain months. Ice rinks, some farms, campgrounds, and ski hills are the types of operations that will see some meter relief as SaskPower adjusts its demand charges.
A release by SaskPower explains that demand charges are necessary for customers who use large amounts of power over a short period because the utility must hold adequate power capacity in reserve in case the customer needs it.
HRNC introduces summer basketball
The Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre is starting up a basketball league for adults. The first games are on June 4 with games every Sunday from 9 -5 at the Humboldt Public School. The games go with ten minute quarters, stopped clock.
There are 3 age brackets to choose from: 16-24 years old, 25-39 years old, and 40 years old and up. The cost is $100 per team with a uniform cost of $45 per player.

Youth writers take centre stage at the Gallery on Wednesday
After two amazing Local Writers Nights, the Humboldt and District Gallery is thrilled to announce their first Youth Writers Night, featuring young writers from local and regional high schools.
According to Englefeld School ELA 7-12 Teacher, Merrissa Karmark, “Celebrating student writing in a public way is so important! This Youth Writers Night is an opportunity for young writers to practice sharing their work aloud. Perhaps more importantly, though, it is a space for them to connect with a community of people as passionate about writing as they are.”
$100,000 instant win in Humboldt
Phyllis Willenborg scratched her way to a $100,000 prize thanks to the CROSSWORD ticket in the SUPER SCRATCH PACK she picked up on March 14.
She purchased her ticket from Thrifty Market at 203 Main St. in Humboldt.
While scratching her ticket at home, Willenborg thought that she only uncovered four words, but upon closer inspection noticed she still had more letters to scratch.

Votes coming in for Saskatchewan's Worst Roads
The votes are being tallied and the race is on for this year’s CAA Worst Roads campaign. Notwithstanding Highway 5 east of Humboldt and the annual breakup of the winter surface during construction, the Humboldt area hasn’t fared too badly when it comes to the top ten poorest driving surfaces. However, not too far away are the vote getters.
Head east down Highway 5 to Buchanan and you’ll see the 7th ranked worst road as it stands today. Marked as “poor road maintenance” on the ballot, the stretch has raised the ire of local drivers.
Humboldt Broncos Club donates to Broncos Memorial Committee
The Humboldt Broncos Jr. A Hockey Club has made a donation of $275,000 to the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Committee to go toward the Broncos Tribute Campaign. The cheque presentation came on April 12.
The money from the Broncos hockey club came from donations that arrived in the wake of the 2018 Broncos tragedy. In a release, the Broncos thanked everyone who made donations of any kind for their generosity and support.
Southey RCMP search for missing individual
A recent sighting of a missing individual has provided police with clues but no whereabouts for a missing individual.
Southey RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance to help locate 35-year-old Joel Campbell of Standing Buffalo First Nation.
