SaskEnergy announces gas flaring east of Nokomis
SaskEnergy will be conducting controlled natural gas flaring at its TransGas block valve, approximately 0.5km east of the Town of Nokomis, in the RM of Wreford. Flaring will take place between 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, subject to change based on operating requirements.
Residents and drivers in the area may see a 40-foot flame being emitted from the flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure.
Mohawks football fired up in victory over Delisle
With summer holidays firmly in the rearview mirror, student athletes are back in action, including local football teams. The Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks took to the field on a warm and clear Friday afternoon for their first foray into the 9-aside season against the Delisle Rebels at Glen Hall Park. Every new season sees new faces on the gridiron, but with plenty of returning players to guide the rookies, the Mohawks took command of the game situation early and rolled through to a 53-34 win.
Broncos split pre-season openers with Kindersley
Pre-season hockey is all about knocking the rust off and planting the skates firmly on the ice in game conditions. The Humboldt Broncos and the Kindersley Klippers both got that first taste of autumn hockey action this weekend with a home and home opener.
Power outages planned for Elfros and Lac Vert
Sask Power announces a pair of planned power outages for communities in the region.
The first will take place on September 12 from 10 am to noon affecting customers in Lac Vert and surrounding rurals east of Lac Vert to an area south of Kipabiskau.
At the same time on September 12, another outage will affect customers in Elfros and surrounding rurals east, west & north of Elfros.
These outages are necessary for system maintenance. Sask Power thanks customers for their patience.
Hunters cautioned about dangers of wildfires starting in areas of the province
With drought stricken areas of the province susceptible to wildfires, the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) and the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) are asking hunters to take extra precautions in high-risk areas as the hunting seasons get underway, especially where ATV and other vehicles may be involved.
Saskatchewan Highway Patrol seizes over $1.1 million in illegal tobacco
Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers made a critical stop on a Saskatchewan highway that led to the seizure of $1.1 million in illegal tobacco products. A government release indicates approximately 1.9 million unstamped cigarettes were discovered, and the driver of the truck carrying the contraband was taken into custody.
Ministry of Education ushers in a new school year
The morning and afternoon streets are a bit busier with the province’s schools back in full swing for the fall. Most students and teachers headed back on Tuesday, September 5. A provincial government release welcomes everyone involved in K-12 education back after what was hopefully a restful and rejuvenating summer.
RCMP searching for driver in Prud'homme area
RCMP are requesting the public's help in locating a vehicle and its driver.
Saskatoon RCMP are asking the public to keep an eye out for a blue 1994 GMC half ton truck with Saskatchewan plate 639 NDB. Vehicle was last seen in the Prud'homme area. Police believe vehicle operated by Myles Has, age 34 years. Myles Has is a person of interest in an incident involving firearms that occurred around 8:30pm on September 6, 2023 in Prud'homme.
Superannuated Teachers group offers education scholarship
In honour of the 50th anniversary of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan STS) and the Humboldt and District Chapter of the STS, the Humboldt and area group is offering a $1000 scholarship to support students entering the profession. The award will be granted to a local student entering the final year of a Bachelor of Education Program. The Scholarship is supported by a $500 grant from the provincial STS.
SGI's Traffic Safety Spotlight heading back to school
This week marks back to school for Saskatchewan students and that’s why SGI’s Traffic Safety Spotlight for the month of September focuses on school zones. Streets become more active at the arrival and departure times of day. In Humboldt, we are aware of how that impacts traffic flow along our main through routes. It’s the time of year that SGI, law enforcement, school officials and parents remind motorists that there’s a lot going on in school zones.
