The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed 1 new positive COVID-19 test result in the region.

The positive test result was reported from the Dryden/Red Lake Health Region. Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts have started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Due to recent low case numbers, NWHU must move back to reporting by 4 larger areas to protect the privacy of individuals.

Currently, the NWHU is confirming 5 active cases in the catchment area. Three in the Kenora Health Region, one in the Dryden/Red Lake Health Region, and one in the Rainy River Health Region.

From the week of June 7 to 13, 2021 the NWHU has performed a total of 1,186 COVID-19 tests.

NWHU recommends that everyone, including those who have been vaccinated, assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face. Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested.  For information about getting tested, please visit the NWHU website for instructions on how to schedule an appointment at an assessment centre.
