Philanthropist and entrepreneur John Buhler dies

Family and friends are mourning the loss of philanthropist and entrepreneur, John Buhler.

Mayor Scott Gillingham put out a statement Sunday afternoon saying he is deeply saddened by this news.

Gillingham says Buhler was a man whose remarkable contributions and enduring legacy have left a lasting mark on our community.

"Through his leadership and development of Buhler Industries, John Buhler played a major role in building Winnipeg’s capacity as a centre of modern agribusiness."

Fog makes its way back to Strathmore

Fog is returning to Strathmore Sunday night.

"There may also be a risk of freezing drizzle in some areas which will lead to slippery conditions," wrote Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in a news release.

"Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero."

ECCC says travel will be tough as reduced visibility is expected in a few locations.

StrathmoreNow will keep residents updated once the fog advisory ends.

Missing Airdronian located

Airdrie RCMP has reported that the previously missing 35-year-old has been located.

The RCMP extends their gratitude to the public for their support.

Infrastructure investments in 2024 drive residential and industrial development in RM of Portage la Prairie

The RM of Portage la Prairie achieved several key accomplishments in 2024, which former Deputy Reeve Roy Tufford says the council is proud of. With Reeve Kam Blight retiring from politics and stepping down as president of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities, Tufford took over over leadership until this past Friday when he resigned in order to run for Reeve in the coming byelection. Councillor Garth Asham is now Acting Reeve.

He highlights some of the year’s major developments.

5th & Saskatchewan Ave accident involves pickup and car

A pickup truck and a smaller car collided in somewhat of a serious accident on Sunday, December 22, with heavy damage done to both vehicles. It appeared that no one was seriously injured. It occurred at the intersection on Saskatchewan Avenue east and 5th St. east. It's not known who is at fault. 

It happened at about 1 p.m or earlier, and the area was cleared by 1:30.  The pickup had a front passenger side wheel seriously angled from the hit and the front of the smaller car was seriously damaged.

No further information is currently available.

UPDATE: Airdrie RCMP seeks help finding missing 35-year-old

The 35-year-old Airdronian who was reported missing earlier today has been located.

Health Canada warns parents to stay safe with Christmas toys

Plenty of safety tips are here to deal with the Christmas season, though toys are also a key concern for anyone buying those for Christmas.

Health Canada sent out a recent release detailing some of the health risks that could come from those, ranging from what toy is appropriate for a child's age and what they're made out of.

Red Cross gives advice on getting through three cold weather emergencies

With a winter storm and colder temperatures on the way for the southeast, the Red Cross wants people to be prepared for some common winter emergencies.

That includes weather troubles, home troubles, and ice troubles.

Georgie Matharu, the senior manager of risk reduction for Saskatchewan, discussed some of the details you should consider if you get stuck in a storm on the road this winter.
