Airdrie motorists: Tow ban, travel disruptions on QEII due to extreme weather
The RCMP in central Alberta advises against travel along QEII between Edmonton and Calgary due to extreme weather conditions.
A travel advisory and tow ban are in effect for the Highway 2 corridor between Edmonton and Blackfalds. Due to deteriorating weather, tow operations have been temporarily paused. Drivers are urged to monitor Alberta 511 for updates on highway travel conditions.

QEII NB lanes reopened near Lacombe and Olds; tow ban still in effect
Police have issued a tow ban and are advising against travel in the area.
Alberta RCMP has implemented a tow ban on the QEII Highway between Edmonton and Blackfalds, urging drivers to avoid travel until weather and road conditions improve.
The northbound lanes of the QEII near Lacombe have reopened. Just before 7 pm, a jackknifed semi-trailer had both lanes of the highway closed.
Additionally, all northbound lanes on the QEII near the Highway 27 junction, close to Olds, have reopened after a different incident involving a jackknifed semi-trailer.

Update: Hazardous road conditions affecting QEII north of Airdrie
Airdrie drivers should be prepared for hazardous road conditions if travelling north on the QEII this evening.
Road conditions on the QEII north of Airdrie, between the Junction with Highway 2A and south of Bowden, are partly snow-covered. Drifting snow and strong winds create bare wheel paths. While visibility remains good, slippery patches and reduced traction are possible, so drivers should stay vigilant and adjust their speed accordingly.
Airdrie council approves $97.4-million borrowing for recreation centre, infrastructure and fire equipment
Airdrie City Council has approved borrowing $97.4 million to fund the Southwest Recreation Centre, upgrades to the city’s sanitary infrastructure, and the purchase of new fire vehicles and equipment.
According to council documents, "The operating impact of the debt servicing payments for the above projects were included in the 2025 approved budget. There is no additional impact to residents."
QEII SB lanes re-opened at Ponoka, RCMP warn of bad conditions
Highway conditions in the area are deteriorating.
Just before 5:30 p.m., a semi-trailer Jackknifed on the QEII Highway Southbound near Highway 53. All lanes have been cleared.
RCMP in central and northern Alberta are advising that road conditions are extremely bad, specifically in Leduc, Wetaskiwin, Camrose County, Maskwacis, Ponoka and areas around Edmonton. RCMP is reporting whiteout conditions with severe wind. Visibility is extremely poor in many locations.

Police in Chestermere now equipped with body cameras
Police officers in Chestermere will now be wearing body cameras.
Back in the fall, the RCMP began a program that would deploy over 10,000 body cameras to officers across Canada.
Chestermere police recently completed training for body cameras and are now using them while out in the field.
According to RCMP, the benefits of body cameras include more public trust and accountability, improved police interactions, and better evidence collection.
Body cameras are being used by police agencies across the globe to provide audio and video of police interactions.
Chestermere man charged in drug and weapons bust
Four people, including one from Chestermere, were charged in a drug and weapons bust in Calgary.
A news release from Calgary police says Ricky Singh Gill from Chestermere, is facing 12 charges related to drug trafficking, firearms, and possession of stolen property.
One man and two other women from Calgary were also charged with a total of 56 offences.
Police called in the Gun Violence Enforcement Team (GVET) after they discovered suspicious activity in the city's northeast.
