To say that Market Square was overflowing with people at this year's tree lighting is an understatement.
Not only was the square itself packed, but so was the whole of Chaplin Street East adjacent, and parts of Central Avenue North and First Avenue NE. Families, friends, and Christmas tree enthusiasts were all gathered to watch as Swift Current Mayor, Al Bridal, counted down the big moment.
After a minor delay, the lights came on and dazzled the crowd, marking a start to the Christmas season in Swift Current.

Airdronians may see some changes to their auto insurance in January 2025, with a major overhaul of the system anticipated by January 2027.
The first changes will involve adjustments to the rate cap for good drivers, set to take effect in January 2025. Premiums for responsible drivers will see an estimated increase to 7.5 per cent, intended to account for rising legal, repair, and disaster-related costs while protecting against more substantial hikes.
Rebels trade former Goaltender of the Year
Red Deer Rebels Owner, President & General Manager Brent Sutter today announced that the club has completed a trade with the Kelowna Rockets.
The Rebels have traded 19-year-old goaltender Rhett Stoesser to Kelowna in exchange for a fourth-round pick at the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, and a fourth-round pick at the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft.
Former Moose Jaw MLA receives conditional discharge for assault
Former Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence pleaded guilty to assault at Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday and was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge.
As part of a joint submission between Lawrence’s lawyer Merv Nidesh and Provincial Crown Prosecutor Rob Parker, Lawrence vacated his earlier not guilty plea for charages of assault and assault by choking. The assault by choking charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.

There are only a few more days left to get your smile cookies and help support the Airdrie Food Bank.
The cookies started being sold in stores on November 18th and can be purchased until the 24th, the Tim Hortons holiday smile cookie campaign is supporting Airdronians.
The Smile Cookie campaign is designed to give back to communities, and different organizations are chosen to receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. This season the money raised will go to the Airdrie Food Bank, while the other 50 per cent will go to Tim Horton’s Foundation Camps.
Secret Santas planning to spread Christmas cheer to seniors in Strathmore
The holiday season is fast approaching and a few volunteers in Strathmore are doing their part to help out seniors for Christmas.
The Strathmore Secret Santas are working on the Stockings for Seniors initiative which focuses on seniors from Wheatland Lodge and Sagewood to ensure their wish lists of gifts are fulfilled.
From there, people in the community will match with them and give them their presents.
Leanne Conrad one of the Secret Santas says items like slippers, candies, and treats are big asks from seniors.
Few incidents reported as storm swept through Estevan
A stormy Wednesday kept most people indoors, leading to a relatively quiet day for the Estevan Police Service, with only a few calls keeping officers busy.
A motor vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Perkins Street and 4th Avenue. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to drive from the scene. Drivers exchanged information and were advised to report the collision to SGI. No further police involvement was necessary.
UPDATE: Missing 19-year-old found safe
Cochrane RCMP has confirmed missing 19-year-old Destiny has been located safe and sound.
She was reported missing Wednesday evening after being last seen in Cochrane.
