Chris Abrams has declared his intention to run for one of two Morden City Councilor seats left vacant after newly elected Florian Lassnig resigned, followed by the resignation of Mayor Brandon Burley two weeks later. Councilor Nancy Penner then resigned her council position to run for Mayor, leaving a second vacant councilor seat.
Abrams has lived in Morden for the past thirty years with his wife and has raised his three wonderful children here. Now he likes to spend time with his grandchildren as well.
"I'm really committed to the community. I volunteer at Many Hands and am involved in a lot of issues that deal with young kids and poverty, because growing up, money was always an issue."
Abrams ran unsuccessfully in last year's municipal election. He went on to explain why he is running again, for one of the two open seats.
"I've always been interested in politics. I've found that communication is lacking at times, and I just want to be able to make a difference."
He touched on some of the issues facing the City of Morden at this time.
"Until the shovels are in the ground for the lagoon, that has to be the biggest issue. But there's also infrastructure issues and funds that should be used for certain things that get used for other things instead of general taxes."
Abrams' youth and the work he does at Many Hands has influenced his reasons for running again to represent the people of Morden on City Council.
"You want to try to make a difference. You see things that could be different. You hope that you could have an effect. I know not everything is possible, but you still have to try."
The by-election has been set for December 20th to fill the mayoral seat and 2 councilor positions.
