A young woman is facing charges after the death of a boy on Saturday.

The Winnipeg Police Service is charging a 19-year-old Winnipeg woman with Manslaughter after the stabbing of a 12-year-old.

On Saturday evening, officers were called to the 200 block of Burrows Avenue. When they arrive with General Patrol officers, a Tactical Support Team and K9 Unit, they located the seriously injured boy on the road.

Attending to the boy at the scene was an off-duty nurse, who WPS Constable Jay Murray says was a nearby a good samaritan. He was sent to the hospital where he later died.

"I struggle with finding a word to describe this homicide, specifically involving the 12-year-old that became deceased," Murray says in a weekend press conference.

Police believe that two groups were involved in an altercation, including the youth.

Murray calls the events troubling, saying some details may come forward in the future. He says it is exceptionally tough to see incidents with young people.
