Moose Jaw, SK — There were scoring chances abound for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but it wasn’t their night at the offensive end.

The Warriors dropped a 5-1 game to the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“We had enough good looks to win this game and it was a winnable game and we just weren’t able to get the job done,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.

“The biggest thing is making sure that we capitalize, we had some posts, had some open nets and some really good looks and just weren’t able to capitalize on it.”

“It’s a lot of fighting through to get through to their net and not letting them get through to our net, and I thought they won those battles today for the most part, for sure in the first period and we had good push back in the second,” Warriors forward Brayden Schuurman said.

The loss ends the Warriors’ four-game winning streak.

Warriors forward Brayden Schuurman said the Rebels made them work for every chance they had.

“It’s a lot of fighting through to get through to their net and not letting them get through to our net, and I thought they won those battles today for the most part, for sure in the first period and we had good push back in the second,” he said.

The Rebels led for most of the game after a first period goal from Dwayne Jean Jr.

Jagger Firkus tied the game just 1:59 into the third period when fired home a one-timer for his 25th of the season.

Red Deer took the lead back Frantisek Formanek scored midway through the third to make it 2-1.

The Warriors continued to press until the final minutes when Red Deer was able to score three goals, two into an empty net, to pull away for the win.

“We were spectating in the first period and probably the first 10 minutes of the second period, it really took us to the last five or 10 minutes of the second period to really start getting our legs going and start to play more in the offensive zone,” Pereverzoff said.

“Then we couldn’t get the job done when we had our opportunities.”

The Warriors were outshot 28-22 on the night.

Both teams failed to score with the man advantage as Moose Jaw finished 0-for-3 and Red Deer went 0-for-4.

The Warriors will now look to bounce back with two big East Division games this weekend when travel to Brandon on Friday and then host Saskatoon on Saturday for Teddy Bear Toss Night.
