'Lit that fire again': Toews grateful, excited to play after signing with Winnipeg
Jonathan Toews is officially back.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion, who last played an NHL game more than two years ago, was introduced Friday as the newest member of his hometown Winnipeg Jets, donning a jersey with his signature No. 19 at a team press conference.
The Jets announced their intention to acquire the 37-year-old centre last month, but it only became official this week with Toews signing a one-year deal worth US$2 million, plus performance bonuses tied to games played and playoff success.
2025 Kerrobert KCRA Rodeo getting underway Friday night
The 2025 Kerrobert KCRA Rodeo leaves the chute tonight for the first of a three-day event in the West Central community.
Friday night's action starts at 4:00 PM with the barrel racing jackpot, and team roping jackpot. There are no pre-entries as teams enter on site, the open rodeo a great way to kick off the weekend.
Saturday then begins with slack at 9:00 AM, before the first main rodeo performance at 3:30 PM. Along with all the regular rodeo events, also on tap for the grounds are mutton busting, wild pony riding, and ladies ranch broncs trick riding.
Good to Go Racing stacks wins and family time into busy summer
Not only are they the ones behind the upcoming Norm Neigum World Series of Mud & Dirt Drags on July 25-26, but the Good to Go Racing team based out of Kindersley is a professional, blown alcohol mud racing and sand drag racing group taking events by storm.
Shayne Neigum is the lead driver for the team and talked about their early season schedule so far.
Miller Express win slugfest in Regina, close gap on Red Sox
The Moose Jaw Miller Express pulled a game closer to the Regina Red Sox for third place in the WCBL East Division after picking up a 19–16 win Thursday night in Regina.
Moose Jaw jumped out to a 3–0 lead after the first inning with Austin Gurney hitting a three-run home run.
Dawgs winning streak now at 9 games
The Okotoks Dawgs of the WCBL picked up another win on Thursday night, this time it was on the road in Swift Current.
They dropped the 57s 5-2 to record their ninth win in a row.
The Dawgs are now sitting in first place in the West Division with a two-and-a-half game lead on the Lethbridge Bulls.
Both teams hit the ball diamond again tonight in Swift Current before the team hops back on the bus to Okotoks.
It was nothin' but a good time for Stamps fans at the Stampede Bowl
The CFL Calgary Stampeders won their inaugural Stampede Bowl handily on Thursday night at McMahon Stadium.
The Stamps were firing on all cylinders as they demolished the 3-and-0 Winnipeg Blue Bombers 37-16.
Not only did Stamps fans have a lot to cheer about, but they also rocked out when former Poison lead singer, Bret Michaels, hit the stage for the halftime show.
The Stamps are now riding a 3-1 record, enough to move into second place in the CFL West.
RDP Queens Basketball welcomes new head coach
The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens Basketball program is entering a new era with the hiring of Dante Dinter as head coach for the 2025–26 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.
Dinter, who previously served as an assistant coach with the MacEwan University Griffins of U Sports, takes over the role following the departure of Avery Harrison.
Bombers bucked in Calgary in inaugural Stampede Bowl
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers came into the inaugural Stampede Bowl unbeaten and riding high in the saddle after being pegged — once again — as Canadian Football League contenders.
They are now exiting Cowtown after being thrown from their steed and then lassoed, hogtied and branded by the Calgary Stampeders in sloppy, mistake-filled 37-16 loss in front of 22,485 at McMahon Stadium, a result which drops them to 3-1 — ditto for the Stamps — and takes a whole pile of shine off what had been an impressive unbeaten start to the season.
Back and forth batting duel produces win for 18UAAA Red Sox over Marlins
A mid game surge by the Sask Five Marlins brought them close to a comeback in last night's matchup against the East Central 18UAAA Red Sox, but the Sox' bats got to work to secure an 11-9 win.
The Red Sox jumped ahead early with a four run first inning. Sluggers Jarret Rude and Jacob Trann both doubled to centre field while Jaxon Schlepper and Pryor Dyck both took single swipe, each one accounting for a run.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express rolled into Regina last night, beat the Red Sox 19-16. It was a full team effort at the plate; Edwards, Gurney, DeGrazia, Soto, Niaves, and Waliczek all chipped in with RBI's.
The Millers return home for tonight's matchup against the Saskatoon Berries. Game time is 7:05.
Moose Jaw's Cameron Billy is home after capturing silver at the Muay Thai Festival in Italy last week. The public is invited to celebrate Billy's accomplishment with a rally at Mac the Moose at noon today.
