Niverville hosted the Development Plan and Zoning Bylaw Open House on Tuesday evening at the Community Resource & Recreation Centre. Urban Systems presented Niverville’s development and bylaw plans to the public.
Niverville mayor Myron Dyck says they hired Urban Systems through the request for proposal process. They provided council with a development plan renewal for the next five years.
“[Tuesday] was an open house to have a chance to do their input and go, ‘What are the strengths of the community? What are the weaknesses? What do you like? What do you think we need?’ And then council takes those notes,” Dyck says.
Dyck says the province requires every municipality to redo their development plan every five years.
The plans also included background information about labour and income, existing land uses and more.
Dyck says the process is like big-block thinking. They discuss where neighbourhoods, commercial and industrial areas, and green areas should go for the five-year plan. However, it’s not set in stone.
"Things can change because people might come or opportunities may arise, and you're like, ‘Oh, we need more of this. We need less of that,’” he says.
Assistant CAO/Planning Officer Audrey Neufeld says the deadline for Niverville residents to voice their opinions on the urban planning and bylaw review is on Jan. 5, 2024.
