The City of Grande Prairie is excited to announce the launch of the 'Aging Well Together' initiative, a key component of the Council's strategic priority to foster an "Inclusive and caring community." This initiative aims to engage and serve all seniors and older adults, ensuring that every individual is included and cared for.

Recognizing Grande Prairie as a "youthful" city with a rapidly growing senior population, the 'Aging Well Together' initiative seeks to address the specific needs of adults aged 55 and above. With the senior population in Alberta projected to increase by 92.3% by 2043, and 19.3% of Grande Prairie's current population being over 55, it's more important than ever to focus on their well-being.

"Our community is at its best when we come together to support every member, regardless of age,” said Mayor Jackie Clayton. The 'Aging Well Together' initiative is a testament to our commitment to creating an environment where everyone, especially our seniors, can thrive."

The initiative kicks off with a series of open house sessions, scheduled from January 22 to 26, 2024. These sessions are an integral part of the initiative, providing an opportunity for older adults, seniors, service providers, and other community members to engage in meaningful discussions and activities focused on aging well in Grande Prairie. The initiative's in-person sessions will also feature door prizes for attendees, with winners drawn at each event. Session details can be found at engage.cityofgp.com/agingwell.

A survey will also be released in January for community members to provide their feedback and suggestions for the initiative. This input will be invaluable in shaping the future of the 'Aging Well Together' initiative. Two gift cards will also be awarded, open to all who complete the initiative's survey. Participants will be able to complete the survey at engage.cityofgp.com/agingwell.
