While property taxes are on the rise in Moose Jaw there's still an opportunity to save money on your tax bill.

Residents can receive a discount on the municipal portion of their property tax for payments made between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2024, unless they're enrolled in the Tax Installment Payment Plan Service (TIPPS).

Payments can be made in person at City Hall, by cheque, at your bank or on the city's website.

The city will not be mailing out discount notification letters to residents.

You can find more information on the discounts available on the City of Moose Jaw's website.

In December, city council narrowly passed the 2024 budget which included a 7.6 per cent municipal tax increase which Mayor Clive Tolley called "one of the most unpleasant experiences in my life."

The increase will see the average taxpayer pay $16.57 more per month which works out to $198.97 more per year.

It was a particularly difficult budget for city council this year as they had to make up for a $9 million deficit in the capital budget while keeping tax rates as low as possible.

The tax increase will generate $2.7 million to make up for the shortfall to balance the budget.
