It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Myrna Joy Ellard. After a long period of convalescence at Kenora Hospital, Myrna recently became a resident of Pinecrest Home.

Myrna was born in Thunder Bay. Family separation before and after her father’s return from WWII, pain and suffering from an arm injury that was never treated and being partially deaf marked a life of sadness for Myrna. She suffered much uncertainty stemming from a lack of formal education and limited life skills. Nevertheless, she persevered with limited government aid and marginal work opportunities and became a permanent resident of Kenora.

Myrna was predeceased by her brother Robert, sister Maureen (Seier) and half-sister Mary (Danyluk). She is survived by her sister Shirley (Winslow) of East Braintree, Manitoba and a brother Larry of Kelowna, B.C. Myrna will also be remembered by her nieces Doreen and Darlene, her step-sisters Joyce and Roberta along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Thankfully, Myrna found meaning and a measure of happiness with a Kenora-area family and a life-long friendship with Brenda Snow. It began with Myrna providing her with childhood care and then developed over a great many years to the point where Brenda became a much needed counselor, companion and dear friend for Myrna.

The Ellard family wish to express their deep appreciation to Brenda for having befriended and cared for Myrna over the many years and for her continued help in finalizing Myrna’s affairs, arranging cremation and taking custody of her ashes in accordance with Myrna’s wishes.

There will be no service or celebration of life at this time.
