The Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario (MROO), has stepped up and donated a total of $7,000 to seven local charities and organizations across the Thunder Bay, Kenora, and Rainy River District.
“This all came about because of COVID, part of our mandate is we meet four times and it's usually in Eastern Ontario, all that money that we saved from that we thought it would be a great opportunity to give back to the community that's what we did and everybody was on board with it. The groups that were able to get the money we're really happy and came at a time they needed it because people aren't donating like they were and it worked out really well for us,” said William Latham Zone 8 Director
This donation is a part of their COVID-19 relief initiative which has donated a total of $63,000 to local organizations and charities across Ontario. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, many events and conferences were canceled in 2020-2021. The Board of Directors decided to put these savings from those events back into their local communities.
William Latham is the Director of Zone 8 which encompasses the region of Thunder Bay, Kenora, and Rainy River District and his team donated to the following 7 local organizations and charities:
