The Kenora area could receive a chance of some much-needed rain, as the forecast is calling for a 30 per cent chance of showers this afternoon into tonight and possibly Sunday.
According to Environment Canada, it's only a slight “chance” of rain.
“It's a small chance, 30% chance of showers and it's not going to be giving terribly large amounts, maybe even just a trace for a few areas. It is going to be fairly dry through the rest of the weekend. I know the area is in desperate need of some rain,” said Steven Flisfeder Environment Canada Weather Preparedness Meteorologist
Temperatures will briefly cool down beginning overnight Sunday into Monday as a cold front will be passing through bringing with it possible showers.
“Not a terribly big cool down, it's still looking like it could be into the high 20s and probably some muggy feeling with the humidex values being into the mid-30s as well, so a bit of a reprieve,” added Flisfeder
According to the Kenora Airport through the month of July, the area has only received 42.1 millimetres of the 103.4 millimetre average expected precipitation amount. That means that the area has only received only around 41 per cent of expected precipitation for the Month of July.
This has led to drought conditions leaving the area dry and susceptible to forest fires and water levels of local waterways low.
The possibility of rain would be much appreciated to help assist firefighters fighting nearly 100 forest fires across Northwestern Ontario.
