Soon enough our friends to the south will have the opportunity to travel into Canada for the first time in over a year

Today the federal government announced the Canada/US border will be opened to fully vaccinated Americans starting August 9, 2021, at 12:01 ET and a two-week quarantine will not be needed.

Fully vaccinated tourists from other countries will be allowed to enter Canada starting September 9, 2021.

Northwestern Ontario has been affected by the lack of American tourists due to the border closure.

“We're all tremendously relieved and it's a testament to northwestern Ontario's commitment to getting our vaccination rates up and being in a position to receive our American tourists, this is an essential part of our economy. This is about friendships and family and an extraordinary relationship between two countries and it needs to get back on track. As I said, it's time,” said Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford

“This is incredible news for Northwestern Ontario and our expansive tourism industry here in Kenora-Rainy River. With growing numbers of fully vaccinated people on both sides of the border, I have been a vocal advocate to have our American borders open, especially here in Northwestern Ontario. I am glad the Federal Government responded to our calls for action," added Rickford

The Canada/US border has been closed to out-of-country travelers since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc across the world.
