The Government of Saskatchewan has announced labour force statistics released by Statistics Canada for Saskatchewan are showing the addition of 18,700 full time jobs in the month of February. This is an increase of 15,200 jobs last month when compared to February 2023.
These additional positions raise Saskatchewan's employment growth rate to 2.6 per cent.
When adjusted for seasonal workers, the unemployment rate for the province is the third lowest in the nation, sitting at 5.0 per cent, nearly a full percentage point below the Canadian average of 5.8 per cent.
Jeremy Harrison, Immigration and Career Training Minister, praised the current approach taken by the Saskatchewan Government to increase employment options.
The total labour force in Saskatchewan for the month of February was 627,100 people, of which 595,200 were currently employed.
Job growth was seen in both major cities in the province when compared to last February. Saskatoon showed growth of 6.1 per cent or 11,400 jobs, and Regina's employment was up 8,500, for an increase of 6.0 percent.
The province experienced $12.4 billion in private sector capital last year, up 24.6 per cent, with the Saskatchewan Government expecting an increase of 14.4 per cent to $14.2 billion this year.
