It is with heavy hearts and fond memories, that we announce the sudden passing of Dan (Danny) Bruce Hatley of Moose Jaw and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 29, 2024, at the age of 67.
Dan was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Hatley. Dan leaves behind his three children and their families: DJ Hatley (Jenn Lussier) and his daughter, Sadie; Jordin (Ashley) Hatley and their children, Scarlett and Griffin; Jana (Lovey) Chahal and their children, Beau, Jem, Jagger and Romeo; his father, Bruce Hatley; his sisters, Connie (Gord) Gault and Joanne (Stan) Lyons, and brother, Chris Hatley (Lindy Cowan); his beloved dog, Ryder; his children’s mother, Myrna Nichol and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dan was born on August 24, 1956, in Central Butte, SK. As an infant, Dan moved with his Air Force family to St. Hubert, Quebec, and then 4 years later to CFB Namao, Alberta. He arrived in Moose Jaw in 1964 at the age of 8 where he developed strong friendships that lasted the rest of his life.
Dan began a career in radio advertising sales for 800 CHAB in 1984. Dan had an unparalleled gift for sales, often turning clients into life-long friends. Dan’s three children came along in the 1980’s. Their childhoods were spent fishing and boating at the lake, golfing, and going to Warrior games and movies. Dan volunteered with the Kiwanis Club for years and spent time on the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey board.
Dan moved to Saskatoon in 2006 and started working for CJWW, where his way with words helped him build new and lasting friendships while selling anything he put his mind to. As he neared retirement, Dan took up woodworking and spent most of his days and nights in his workshop. A skilled craftsman, he took pleasure in crafting timeless and well-made creations including everything from teeter-totters and sandboxes for his grandchildren to exquisite cutting boards, purple martin houses and outdoor benches.
Dan was known for his infectious personality, quick wit, and sense of humour. Dan took dad jokes to a new high (or, perhaps more accurately, low) with an endless supply of groaners that were lovingly referred to as Hatley jokes. He was a loyal Habs supporter and Guy Lafleur’s #1 fan.
One of Dan’s greatest joys was his faithful dog, Ryder, who was by his side through thick and thin. Their bond was truly special, and it was heartwarming to see.
Although Dan may no longer be with us in person, his spirit lives on in the memories we shared, the lessons he taught us, and the laughter he brought into our lives. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was loved deeply and will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Please join us in celebrating the remarkable life of Dan Hatley on Saturday, April 6th at 3:00 p.m. at W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, where stories and laughter will fill the air, and his legacy will be honoured.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, reflecting Dan’s passion for giving back. Alternatively, use the planned donation to gather with friends and family, celebrating Dan’s memory in the warmth of shared moments and cherished company.
