Armella Catherine Koob

The death of Armella Catherine Josephine (nee Theissing) Koob of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Bruno, SK), occurred at her residence on Thursday, April 11, 2024. She was 93 years of age. Armella was born on September 20, 1930, to Henry and Della (née Niebrugge) Theissing on the family farm in the Wilmont District, SK. She was the oldest in the family of three children and the only daughter. Armella grew up on the farm and received her formal education at Keller’s School. Following her school years, she worked for many of her aunts, helping with housework and childcare. Later, she moved to Bruno where she worked in the café, the Bruno Hotel, and was also a telephone operator. It was at a dance in Bruno where Armella met Alfred Koob. They were married on August 11, 1955, at St. John’s Parish in Wilmont, SK. Armella and Alfred settled south of Bruno, where they farmed for many years. In December 1990, they retired to their new home in Bruno. During her years on the farm, and after moving to town, Armella was active in her community. She was a member of various community organizations including the Kildrum Community Club, the St. Bruno’s Roman Catholic Parish CWL, the Bruno Housing Authority, and the Bruno Senior’s Club. She served as general leader of the Kildrum Multiple 4-H Club for several years. Armella was also a member of the St. Bruno’s Parish choir and the Melodears singing group, where she shared her love of music. Armella will be lovingly remembered by her family: Gwen (Kevin Roach) Koob-Roach; Gerald (Charlotte) Koob and family Ashley, Cole, and Kayla; Lois Koob Sowa (special friend, Ted Czemeres), and family Kathryn (Chris) Kramer, Paisley, Mason, and Braxtyn, and Morley; Merle (Curtis) Gibson and sons Ryan and Rhett; her brother Harold (Carleen) Theissing; sister-in-law Lois Theissing, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Koob, parents Henry and Della Theissing, brother Lawrence Theissing, and son-in-law Lonnie Sowa. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Pius Schroh. Others taking part were: Kathryn Kramer, crossbearer; Harold Theissing and Carleen Theissing, scripture readers; members of the Kramer family, giftbearers; Alois Kramer, communion minister; Margaret Cody and Marie Toth, memorial table attendants; and Denise Krentz, organist. Pallbearers were Ashley Koob, Ryan Gibson, Cole Koob, Morley Sowa, Rhett Gibson, and Kayla Koob. Interment followed at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bruno. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Bruno Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund or the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation Building Fund.
