Some border restrictions were lifted earlier this week, making travel by air easier for some.

Fully vaccinated travellers who are American citizens or permanent residents of the United States are being welcomed into Canada for discretionary travel as of Aug. 9.

Andy Davis, the senior director of terminal operations at the Calgary International Airport, says travel is not as easy as it used to be and that changes to restrictions are ongoing.

"In general, we're looking for people to have had a COVID test within three days of their arrival into Calgary, and then if they've been double vaccinated, they don't need to quarantine."

Things are still quite difficult for those who don't have both of their vaccinations.

"If you haven't been fully vaccinated, then you will be subjected to a test and a quarantine process. The quarantine no longer needs to take place in a hotel, but can now take place in a residence or place of your choosing as long as you have a suitable quarantine plan."

Fully vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers both have to provide COVID test results before entering the country.

The border may tentatively open to all other foreign nationals who are fully vaccinated on Sept. 7.
