Portage la Prairie Firefighters were dispatched to a housefire this morning on 9th Street Northwest.
Robert from the Portage Nightwatch Protection Services was the first to notice the house was on fire after he noticed something odd on his way home from his shift.
"I thought as I was driving down the road that it looked kind of foggy, but I was curious why when it wasn't foggy anywhere else," he noted. "I drove down to the area and there was smoke and an orange hue. When I rounded the corner, the whole house was engulfed in flames."
He says their first step in situations like this one is to get people in the neighbouring houses outside in case the fire spreads and engulfs one of the nearby homes.
