The federal government announced on Wednesday that they are moving forward with proof of vaccination certificate for Canadian’s returning home from traveling internationally.

The proof of vaccination allows the border agents the ability to assess each traveler and make sure they meet public health requirements to be able to return back from travel.

MP Eric Melillo hopes that regardless of Canadian’s vaccine status or type of vaccine one got will still allow for Canadian’s to travel internationally.

“There are still some questions in the air about mixed vaccine doses and how that will be recognized in other jurisdictions. We're hoping that the Prime Minister will work with other world leaders and ensure that Canadian vaccination status is accepted regardless of what vaccine or vaccines an individual has received,” said Melillo

Melillo added that the hope is the vaccine certificate will be introduced by the end of the year.

Upon entry, Canadian’s will submit their proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN(mobile app or Canada.ca/ArriveCAN).

Destination countries determine if or what type of proof of vaccination is required and the related benefits that may be provided such as reduced or no testing or subject to quarantine requirements.

Canadians who do not have proof of vaccination can travel outside of the country, but they may need to quarantine or meet other requirements after arriving in their destination country, and they will be subject to a mandatory quarantine and testing upon return into Canada.

The federal government is also encouraging Canadian’s to get vaccinated regardless of travel plans, as the vaccine does provides people with protection from COVID-19.
