Friday kicked off what's expected to be a series of low-pressure systems that will bring much needed moisture over the coming days across Southern Manitoba.

"System one is moving through the Dakotas and Minnesota today, and its impacts are slowly exiting our region," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "As that low pulls eastward, high pressure is building behind it, and that means clearing conditions throughout Saturday, with some sunshine expected by late afternoon in most areas. It also means a return to a northerly flow, and gusty winds up to 60 km/h into the evening hours."

The surface high pressure will help keep things mainly sunny on Sunday, but cooler, with well below average temperatures expected and highs topping out between 9 and 11 degrees. Average daytime highs at the end of April are around 16 degrees. The cool conditions are expected to last for much of the week, as several disturbances either cross through the province or graze the area.

"The second system we're keeping an eye on is expected to move northward through the central U.S., Sunday night into Monday, and into Minnesota and Wisconsin," noted Sumner. "It's expected to bring some shower activity to Southern Manitoba Monday, with a third system looking likely to be part of our forecast Tuesday into Wednesday, meaning another round of precipitation. We certainly need this moisture, and I don't expect too many will be complaining after three or four days of somewhat grey and wet conditions."
