A stretch of much needed moisture continued Monday, with our Rainwatchers letting us know most places around the Pembina and Red River Valley received a few millimeters throughout the course of the day.
"A low pushing through South Dakota and Minnesota yesterday triggered the showers we saw across the southern parts of the region," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "The precipitation wasn't as general as it was late last week, with little to no accumulation recorded north of the Trans Canada highway, and lesser totals in the southwest corner of the province compared to further east."

Looking ahead to the remainder of the week, Sumner noted Tuesday will bring a break from the showers, with a brief period of atmospheric ridging due to surface high pressure keeping things dry with some sunshine. The break won't last long, with another low pushing through the Dakotas and Minnesota Tuesday night into Wednesday, which may bring a shower or two to the region, but Sumner added the probability of seeing moisture from that system has decreased significantly.
"At this point, it's looking like the next significant, accumulating rainfall of the week will be over the period of Wednesday night through Thursday night," he explained. "A low that will be centred over Montana will slowly begin to track across the northern U.S., and will have several waves of precipitation with it. It's looking like we should start to dry out for the weekend, with the showers tapering off by Friday evening, with partly sunny and drier conditions for the weekend."
Temperatures throughout the week are expected to be several degrees below average, except for potentially Wednesday as that brief ridging allows warmer air, courtesy of a westerly flow aloft, to move into the area. Average daytime highs for the end of April are around 17 degrees, and except for Wednesday, highs will land between 10 and 15 until at least Sunday.
